Kingsize and Eternity - You Belong To Me question.

Postby chrislimitbreak » Thu Jan 28, 2010 1:54 am

Yep, ANOTHER oldskool cheese question. I am VERY careful when I buy old records online and Ush has proven to be full of very knowledgeable people whenever I have a question...it might be obvious but one can never be too careful!

Is this just a 2002 repress of the original version?

Thanks guys, you rock.

That it is!

Good tune. Love that first hip hoppy break with the half speed vocals. Pure class.

So I just got the record in the mail and I'm pissed off. Does anyone else think this repress is badly leveled or hideously mastered?

In the hip hop breakdown there's this hihat that is just extemely loud and distorted...its just so ugly and overpowering...I've tried messing with the highs and mids and nothing corrects it...this records just unplayable....

Was always about the B-Side for me on the original Universal pressing. "Rock-A-Jam". Awesome, awesome tune 8)

Great tune but the one in question here is the 2002 single sided repress...

It sounds really grainy, loud and distorted during the breakdown...

Steer clear of represses, 9 times out of ten they are shit quality. It's worth paying that little bit extra for the original release.

oh that really depends. for example i've bought a few great represses off this label: http://www.discogs.com/label/Sublogic+Recordings - and they've all been fantastic, some better than the originals. but i have had some which have remastered versions with rather horribly overcompressed mixdowns.

it surprises me that one would be dodgy though - the repress of Yolk - Music 4 Da People on Kingsize's label was excellent.

i certainly don't remember the original of You Belong to Me being that well-produced - maybe the original's like that? you should check out "You Belong to KFA" too by the way.

I've bought a few in my time, and they have rarely been the quality of the originals. Admittidly, most of mine have been Force & Styles represses (yes, i'm that sad i bought represses of tracks i already had, so i didnt ruin the original copies :yeah, like it's so funny - I'm laughing out loud: ), but they were never as clear as the orginal pressings. It can go the other way, i had some that were far too loud as well.

Saying that, the 'Have it All/Eternity' repress i brought was top notch, but one out of 15 or so isn't that great

Well I thought I'd save a bit of money going this route with the repress...it was either buy the repress here in the states or have to pay for shipping from the UK...learned my lesson that's for sure.

I bought a repress of Fade and Bananman's Dream Suprise and It seems a bit lacking as well...

That's odd. I also have the 2002 repress, but my copy sounds perfectly fine, even 8 years later.

I know the hi-hat you're talking about. It's supposed to be pretty loud in the mix, but if it's distorting......yeah, there's probably a problem there.

Try and track down the original press, and as Cone said check out You Belong to KFA, it's a newerish remix.

It literally just sounds like harsh white noise. My wife was listening to it with me when I got it, she knows almost nothing of song production, leveling or mastering and even she knew it was unplayable and just waay too noisy during that part. Probably just a shotty test pressing I got.
