Best thing to happen to hardcore this 2009?

Talk about the hardcore scene. Stay on topic - keep the waffle to the 'waffle' board and keep the moaning and bitching to the Moan, Moan, Moan forum.

Sawyer wrote:Hmm, this is a difficult one for me to answer, i've really struggled to find anything to really really wow me this year. Some of the drum and bass/hardcore crossovers and drum and bass in general has had some really good releases but I find it's getting a little bit stale. I've not bought any records in a long time, and this is from someone who was spending upto £200 a month on vinyl. Theres the odd release which really grabs me but to me everythng in the UK seems a little "splintered" at the moment. Although I guess it's good for people to take their own direction.

I don't listen to happy hardcore, but from what I've heard a lot of it to me doesn't sound any different to what it did a few years ago, constant remixes, very similar sounding arrangments. I think the biggest change in Happy Hardcore was Hixxy pioneering the Raverbaby sound, B-trax etc... since then theres been no real "turning point" in Hardcore. Maybe i'm wrong but thats how it feels to me.

I'm hoping a new years at Skegness will give me a bit of faith for hardcore next year.

I know what your saying mate. Nothings really got my attention. Although Detest (already mentioned in this thread) is making some interesting tracks. I think guys like Tripped, Igneon System & Hektek will continue to improve over 2010 & of course you have the old faithfuls like Stormtrooper, Producer & Deathmachine releasing well produced stuff as always. The recent Strormtrooper Rebelscum release was quite good (the producer Remix track on there being quality) The TOA 12 on Indepenza was quite good as well.

Hardcore music wise Matt Green, Outside Agency, Hektek, Al Twisted, Producer. Industrial hardcore is where it's at for me and the labels are Third Movement, Enzyme, Genosha etc.
I dont think hardcore attendances have become splintered (if thats what you meant Sawyer?), although I've been going to smaller raves recently, rather than gabber rooms in the big happy hardcore. Bring on Fantasy Island I say! Not had something so all encompassing in ages! They better get the sound right in there.

For me, Hardcore in 2009 is Broken Note, Mental D-struction and Peter Kurten.

I don't think it's anything against the artists though, it's just unfortunate that for various reasons UK Hardcore is very limiting with what you can do with it. By that, I mean both the technicalities of producing music at that speed and also with people wanting to try and market that kind of stuff. That said, of course there is an element of some people 'playing safe' when it comes to their productions. All these things together makes for a formulaic and ultimately manufactured sound, whether intentional or not.

The best thing to happen to hardcore this year is CD 4 of Hardcore Underground 4. It's by far the best showcase of truly dark freeform in a while.
The worst thing, obviously, is the invention of the term "purist", even though that probably happened last year.

I think Igor's tracks this year have been good and as always T.O.A are above the rest. A label to look out for in the future is Obs.cur. they are one their 3rd release now and all three are good.

The best things not happened yet.
A bomb to go off at the biggest UK Hardcore event, kill everyone involved and we have to start the scene again.
Going back to basics like underground rave and no capatalist poncy pin-up boys in sight.

Styles should go on tour with Take That and Dougal should join the Spice Girls re-union.

As close as hardcore goes i think TOA have really shined above anybody else at music this year, really stepped it up so I agree on that.

they are just simply the best really...miles above anyone else. and have been for a long time now.

just wish they'd make more fast stuff...that HKV release is still one of the most played records in my collection 8)

agreed about Obs.cur too. I'd also add BadBack, Tripped's label...both releases have some great tracks on them, nice variety as well.

Loving the Current Value ep on Freak. Its way better than his forthcoming Tech Freaks LP. I think theres only 2 tracks on there i like. IMO he's doing too many Half Time tracks atm!

is that the one with You Can't Play God on it? i do like that.

but that new Current Value album is really dire. i've never been that keen on his style but i could see the appeal...but tracks like "The Good", i really just don't get it. Although fair play that he is still trying to do new things with his style...just a shame they don't really work :yeah, like it's so funny - I'm laughing out loud:

really liking the new SPL album though 8)

Yeah thats the one. You Cant Play God is savage! Proper brock out tackle! :D

TBH i have been alittle harsh on him as he generally does slow things down abit for his albums. Into a Far Future was ahead for its time for example. I just dont think he's nailed it this time.

Addict is a tune & a half though:- http://www.thehardstoremp3.co.uk/mp3/TE ... LP004D.MP3 8)

SPL is just a beast! :D

Have to agree, that new CV album was very very disapointing.

I remember originally there were tracks on there and due to them getting leaked they dropped shit loads of tracks and replaced them with what we have now.

Real shame too as the tracks that were dropped were far superior.
