United States of Hardcore
Happy 1st Birthday to Addiction FM – and what a fine celebration we all had!! This event was sensational and backed up 100% all our suspicions at what the big name DJ culture is doing to our scene. First of all the atmosphere, as soon as I stepped into the place I took a look around, happy smiling faces all around, and there was a queue for the coat room! Thing’s are definitely looking up The set up was pure effort, with nets hanging from the ceiling, eye catching luminescent back drops dominated the walls of every arena. I especially liked the idea of putting a backdrop right behind the DJ – one stating “Addiction” and the frequency! I was happy to see that there were numerous merchandise stalls, these are a must for events, and events without them just seem empty! There were comfortable sofas galore in the old skool arena, and a set up whereby instant photos could be taken! I was also amazed to see a record stall in there too, selling records of all genres for very good prices! To be totally honest, I did not really like the nu-skool break beat which dominated the first set in the hardcore arena. I found it a bit too industrial, and quite slow to dance too, so I spent the first hour or so in the old skool arena and wandering about the corridors waiting for everyone to arrive! I was in the hardcore arena most of the time from 1am right through until the end. The quality of the mixing and tune selection really was amazing. I was addicted. I thought each and every set had its merits, and I can’t put one above the other. Although there seemed to be consensus that night that chris-e-manic had played The set of the night – nice one! One aspect of the night – I really did like was the fact that because the DJ’s were fresh names and so weren’t obliged to play a particular label – they could play whatever the hell they wanted to! No DJ SY? Oh well – better call up his equivalent then! – Scratch Master Lukozade! What a BRILLIANT end to the night! Ending the night with Surrender – By Eruption, one of my all time faves, I and everyone else was totally thrilled! A memorable part of the night was hearing the MC state that tonight has been a total Success.. and ensured that because of this Addiction can go on for much longer into the future! The success of this event definitely proves that commercialism doesn’t win! And underground, smaller events are the way forward!! I send my heartfelt respect to all the addiction crew for all the effort and care you have put into the scene, via this event! Also huuuuuuuge happy shouts to: Andrew, Jo, Chedda, Sam, Time, Cakes, Smithers, Conrad, Tel, Rich, Jo, Justin Vinyl, Happy Bounce, Tina, Claire, Happy J, Bridie, Cris-e, Steve, Roo, Emma, Breaker and mate, Snow, Matt, Alix, Lukozade, MC Storm and Adidas Matt (Wildcard) all those who I have missed! I will remain very fidgety until the next one!
