United States of Hardcore

United Dance 4th-Feb-2000

Friday night, where do I start?? Well I met Kev in Victoria for a pre-rave visit to Elite, good shop selling lots of hardcore which makes a nice change for me:-) Back to Kevs and it only seemed five minutes before I was being harrassed to get my arse in gear and go a raving:-) Met with the usual crowd at Kings Cross and gave Billybass his ticket;-)

The first thing to strike me about the queue was the sheer ammount of hardcor eravers turning up! There were hundreds of us:-) Thanks to the credit card bizniz we got in straight away and the only arena polaying any music was the house and trance arena but it was in arena 4. Whgere was the hardcore?? Off loaded the coats and wend hunting for hardcore. This was after Kev had spent about 500 English pounds on the merchandise stall! First up in the hardcore room, which was actually in the Slammin' techno/trance room arena 5,(rather idssapointingly for me) was Brisky. I wish he would play later but he had to get to Revolution. His set was quite fast but not as fast as I have heard him play before. Some good tunes with some cheese too including a new Come Follow me Rmx.

Well after Brisk Dougal stepped up to the dex and the speed difference was so much I decided that if I was going to listen to any slow music tonight it would be in the old skool room. Jimmy J had just started what was to be a 2 hour set. The venue wasn't too full to start with so they were obviously having their usual queue taking ages problems. He played from 1992 going to Take Me Away (slippers mix) which mysteriously sped up during the first break and made way for his usual set of classic hardcore from 1994-1996. Classy set and one of my faves of the night with the arena filling to capacity towards the end of his set.

Meet-up time and there were bugger all people out there cept for me, Kev, Conrad, Andrew, Ravegirl and her pissed mate;-) We decided it was far too cold to be stood outside and headed back to the hardcore room to play a spot of sardines and get rained on by the litres of condensation falling from the ceiling.

Vinyltrixta was up for what was to be a 2hr set and he played some good stuff. Bit of old, bit of new bit of scratching. Not bad! Went to the old skool room again for a bit but it was getting a bit jungley for me so back to teh trixta. After him Slipmatt was up to mix a good selection of hardcore which got the absolutely rammed hardcore rocking big time.! By now you couldn't get in or out of the hardcore arena due to the sheer number of ravers crammed into arena 5.

After Slippers set I went off to the oldskool room for SL2. Good stuff, plenty of classics from 1992 onwards and ended up getting quite jungley again but good quality stuff. Happy Bounce turns junglist briefly before heading down to the sardine can for another game of bounce with the rest of the crowd wether you wanted to or not:-) Syyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy up next and played a very good set with his usual classy scratching, probably my favourite set of the night. The set finished at 5.45 tho which was a bit dissapointing for us so we went and caught the last few minutes of Ratpack and then joined the massive queue for coats.

Overall a very good night and alot better than I was expecting. There must have been 5,000 people in there, it was that rammed|!! The hardcore arena was quite good but not very well thought out. There were so many hardcore ravers there that the 5th arena couldn't hold them all, alot had to sit it out in the old skool arena for most of the night. Even the garage room was full (unfrtunately) and obviously moody.

Theye didn't seem to get it when I ran through shouting rewind and Bo!!! The D&B room was too ful for me to bother going in there at all and the house and trance room was also packed. I didn't venture to the hard house room atall. The security were a bit friendly than usual, one of them even told Conrad to have a good night!! I did see one bloke getting strip searched on the stairs tho (poor bastard). If I was to be honest they could have filled the place had all the arenas been the same size as the main room it was that full. Top atmos in arena 5 and old skool and a top night for me:-) Maybe it aint my last UD after all.

Shouts to: Kev, Conrad, Andrew & Jo, Rich & Jo, Bridie, Maxim, Smackdown, Tom, Tina, Ravegirl, Phil, Justin, Justin, and everyone else who I met. Reeeeeeeeeespect. See ya at Raindance. Kaboing!!!!!!!!!! :-) :-P :-9 :-$ :-X
