United States of Hardcore
This event was full to capacity, if not over. [5,000] people were there. While waiting outside in the queue, hundreds of us could not help notice the abundance of hardcore ravers in the queue, how were they going to accommodate all of us? Pre 10pm all you could hear was the shrills of whistles and the deafening blow of horns. Got inside first, (THANK GOD FOR THAT CREDIT CARD/GUEST LIST TRICK) Some others I spoke to like Bart & Snow who actually walked up to Bagleys with us, were in the queue for a whopping great 3hrs! That is unacceptable! The hardcore arena, excellent production all night, I noticed that maybe the year 2000 brings the sound of the death knell for cheese. There obviously was some, but each set seemed quite fast, zilcho trance = WICKED! *maybe they nipped it in the bud*? Unfortunately it was in the basement, where SV have their Techno/Trance. As there were SO many more hardcore ravers then UD had anticipated, we were denied much breathing space for most of the night, the atmosphere though was totally topz! Although I understand Snow had an encounter with one of the Birkenhead crew that were there :( MC Storm was on top form all night, which ever arena we swapped to, hardcore or old skool he always seemed to be there, pumping the arena full of his usual energy, nice one! However the most enjoyable part of the night for me, was the Old Skool arena, back in Arena 3 where SV used to have it! Plenty of space to move about, at least for the first 2hrs! Where Sir Jimmy J graced out ears body and mind to a stunning 2hr set, 1992-96. One thing I did notice though was the great atmosphere in there, and as the people started to trickle in, it seemed like the first place they were going to, needless to say it got RAMMED! As there was no space in the hh arena downstairs, it was obvious that everyone headed to the old skool arena. Back downstairs, Brisk played a very fast, 4-beat predominant (now why did I bother saying that??) stompin’ set - definitely the best set to have on to kick of the festivities! Although he also spun a dub plate of a "come and follow me" remix, which was slightly harder, but still incredibly cheesy! Then following him was Dougal - started very slow - so headed to the Old Skool arena to re-join Jimmy J’s set who was now playing "99 Red balloons" ooh la la! Went back down towards the end, where Dougal was playing Evolution tune after Scott Brown tune! (we all know he likes to play slooooow at heart - so why bother!?) Also - why put Dougal on after Brisk - that’ stupidity! Vinyltrixta up next - who played for a mega 2 hours, he played a good selection of tunes - he always does! I did notice the flat-beat Eric tune popping up though, the build up to this tune is fine so I didn’t even realise what it was till then, so I shouldn’t complain! Slipmatt played an amazing set, and so did Sy (2hrs)- I didn’t fully realise his technical ability till then. Although he did end with Rainbows "VG remix" Looks like VG did not turn up, is that why there weren’t any off key/beat "future" style hardcore? A BIG WARM HEALTHY SHOUTOUT TO ALL THE MASSIVE THAT WENT! & ESPECIALLY FOR ALL THOSE WHO HAD TO WAIT IN THE VERY UNORGANISED ENTRANCE QUEUE AND THE VERY LONG AND HOT CLOAK ROOM QUEUE AT THE END. Also a separate shout for MC Storm & Vinytrixta - wicked! Kev =)
