United States of Hardcore
This was my third Revolution event so I knew that this would be a good night. Myself and Slammin Sam had a wicked night when it opened at Area 51 a month ago so I was hoping this would be up to the same standard. I was not to be disappointed. We got to Area 51 before it opened and got inside at about 10:50. After an average search by the security guard we got inside and checked it out. The sound system was still booming and the club was done out as a good rave venue. There were arcade machines inside and the local shop Reflex Records had their own stand there selling vinyl and tapes, both of which were nice touches. First on was Paul-O but as we got inside at 10:50 I only saw the last ten minutes of his set. Judging by the few tunes I did hear like "The Launch" he played a good set. Following him was Top Groove and he played a decent trancey set. The next hour I lost track of who was on but I think it was CJ Glover and Hooley doing half an hour each. CJ Glover did a decent set with some good scratching and Hooley did a good hard set. At 1:00 was the number one nutter Mark EG. He was going mad as usual and enjoying the atmosphere inside. He seemed to play a bit harder than usual but it was still a bit slower than what I prefer. Next up was Sharkey and as you'd expect from him he played a very good set. Ideally I would like to see Sharkey become a Revolution resident. His banging freeform definitely suits the Revolution music policy, he never does a bad set and everyone likes him. The final set of the night was USH NET's very own DJ Majestik. He told me before he went on that he was worried about playing straight after Sharkey, with them both doing the same style of music. You can understand anyone being worried about following Sharkey but his fears were unjustified. Even though Sharkey did a very good set I thought that on the night Majestik was at least as good, if not better. For me he played the set of the night. His set included some well known freeform tunes and finished with the excellent "Now Control" by Helix (which I requested myself). This was another really good night at Revolution. Once again the crowd were really friendly and I met quite a few new people on the night. The only thing I can fault it on was the queueing system. We got inside 50 minutes after it opened and we weren't that far back in the queue. This was only a very minor complaint though and didn't affect the night in any way. A regular quality night like this is exactly what the scene needs. Its music policy of playing it harder is spot on and goes down well with the crowd. In a way I partly feel sorry for Paul-O because there are loads of DJ's who've played well there before as well as the DJ's who people would like to see there. He only has six sets a night to fit these into but every event he always organises a good line up to keep everyone happy. You really should make the effort to visit Revolution soon and it's quite simply one of the best events around at the moment. Shouts go out to sy, Majestik, Spinner and Paul-O.
