United States of Hardcore
This was the third time that I'd been to Revolution at Area 51 and this time I'd managed to convince Andrew and Jo to come up with me. I had no doubt before that it would be a good night because the others had all been very good. Once again the line up was not revealed before. This works really well as you know you can trust Paul-O to book good DJ's, it's just a question of which ones he will get in. We got to the venue at 9:45 and when we're we in the queue someone came out from the club with the line up on to show his mates. We all had a look and I was pleased to see that Sy was there. We were in for about 10:40. Once again the queueing seemed to take too long. It was slightly quicker than last time but it just didn't seem to be moving very fast at all. This is the only criticism I can make of the night though, and it's only a very minor one. First on was Johnny El and I just caught the last 15 minutes of his set. He dropped in Healing Mind and Elyssium to get the crowd going. I'd never heard of him before this but he did play well. Next up was M Zone. He played a good hard trance set, and seemed to play a bit faster than his partner Mark EG normally does. It wasn't really fast but it was still a decent set that he played. Next up was Kenny Sharp and TopGroove back 2 back. They played quite a hard set with some freeform threw in. They seemed to play a mixture of a few different styles. After them came CJ Glover. He played a good set of trancecore, including Lost Generation and Nu Energy 8. He also did some very good scratching. The next set was Scratchmaster Sy. He did a really good set as usual. HE played some uplifting tunes like "Dreadland 99" and "Shooting Star remix" that I wouldn't really have associated with the Revolution style. They went down well though and it was nice to hear tunes like that played there. He generally played slightly trancier tunes though like "Basic Nature" and "Virtual Dreams". Last set of the night was Paul-O. He definitely did the hardest set of the night with quite a lot of freeform and also "Pilgrim". It kept everyone dancing till the end to finish off a great night. Once again this was a really good night from Revolution. Every time I go there I'm more impressed by it. The crowd are really friendly and as I'm been four times now I have made some new friends there. It's great to to go a place where there is a regular crowd who are all up for it. Everyone there loves their hardcore and there is never any trouble or attitude. It just wouldn't be tolerated. Unfortunately I won't be able to make the next one on April 7th but I'm looking forward to going again as this really is an event which is going places. It's well worth the trip up for and it wouldn't surprise me if after a year it moves to a bigger venue as it's always well attended. Massive shouts go out to Andrew and Jo for making the trip all the way up to come here. Shouts also to Spinner and Sy. I'll see you all at Future Dance in a week's time. :)
