United States of Hardcore

Revolution @ Area 51 17th-Mar-2000

Well, i guess that Mr Majestik Couldn't make it on Friday, so I'll put up a review instead (Hope I'm not treading on your toes scott!):

I arrived at the venue at about 10pm, to be greeted by the usual Massive Queue, Someone managed to smuggle one of the set lists into the queue and upon finding out that M-Zone and Kenny Sharp were playing, i couldn't wait to get in, like a lot of other people who saw the list. Surprisingly the queue moved quite fast and i got in at about 10:30, which is the earliest I've been in so far.

Johnny El was playing 10-11 . The place was already stomping by the time i got to the dancefloor. He can be somewhat cheesy on occasions, but he was playing well tonight, and his set included quite a few well known tunes. Johnny left the decks and then it was time for CJ Glover to play his 11-12 slot.

CJ played a mix of freeformy-trancey stuff, which is just what the crowd wanted. His excellent selection of tunes mixed with his scratching, which is pretty good too, made for an all round brilliant set. The MC's performing during this set decided to go back to the in 'yer face style' and were just mingled in the crowd, which i think is a lot better than standing on the platform.

Next up, playing 12-1, was M-Zone. For the past few weeks I've heard lots of people asking for an appearance by M-Zone, and i think it came just at the right time. M-Zone played a blinding set of pounding trance, with a bassline you could feel rumbling its way up through your body! About 2/3 of the way through his set marcus told him to stop, and declared that he wouldn't continue playing until he heard some noise. The noise was deafening and M-Zone continued for another 20 minutes, working the crowd up into a frenzy.

At 1 'o clock M-Zone vacated the decks and Made way for the resident Topgroove, and his back 2 back partner, DJ Kenny Sharp, the second of the nights ex-uprising trance residents. I've never seen Kenny and Topgroove play B2B before and it was well worth hearing. Topgroove and kenny played a trancey set containing a few well loved tunes, which seemed to carry on perfectly, what M-Zone had started.

The One and only DJ Sy played 2-3 with his usual mix of happycore. He didn't seem to scratch as much as usual, but when he did, it was frantic to say the least. The changing from Trance to Hardcore seemed to keep the crowd going that little bit longer. Sy mixed it up for an hour, and dropped 'shooting star',( which a few people complained about), as one of his finishers.

At 3 it was time for the man himself, Paul O. After last time, quite a few people complained that Paul had played the first hour, therefore most of the crowd missed him, but this time he was back in his regular slot. Paul O played a bouncing hardcore set, and looking around you could see people jumping like they had been all night, it didn't matter if they had any energy left or not, they just had to carry on to the end. MC's on the night were Domer, Marcus, Natz, JD walker, Beatz, ELL and space.

4 o'clock came sooner than expected, and everyone knew that it was the end of another Top night at revolution, I think i can say that just about everyone left with a smile on their face.

Nice one Paul, another Excellent Line up and more proof that you have found a winning formula. Revolution just gets better and better. JUST TRY AND STOP US!!

Respect to Paul O , M-Zone, Majestik, Luke and the askern crew, and the mad guy in the train station (Where were the cow noises this week, eh??)
