Well, October 11th came and it was time for another Saturday night out at Labyrinth. This one was destined to be a little bit more special than usual, because that night was Labyrinth's 9th birthday and my 18th, so we were determined to have a large one. So we got our white gloves, glitter (well, me and Shelby Frootcake got our glitter - the lads refused for some reason?!) and off we went to Labyrinth for a ten-hour stomp! The flyer promised a line-up which Helter Skelter would be proud of, with the Labyrinth regular Easy Ed rubbing shoulders with Sy, Vibes, Kenny Ken, Ratpack, and all the usual big name DJs. There was also to be a live PA by DJ Stompy. We turned up nice and early (shouts to everybody who came with me - Zoe, Scott, Dom, Jamie, Rodney and Tina) because Lab started 2 hours early for the Birthday. It was a bit empty at first, but by the time the England football match was over, Labyrinth filled up. It was a good sized crowd and a wicked atmosphere - none of the rubbish vibe present at the last birthday bash, and no near-fatal crushes in a seriously overcrowded building. This time Joe and Sue got it exactly right, and I would go as far as to say that it was the best night I have had at Labyrinth since Old Labrynth on Dalston Lane shut down. All the DJs played excellent sets, nobody stood out above the others, but a massive shout has to go out to Easy Ed - he held up against the best HHardcore DJs in the world, and did all the Labyrinth regulars proud! Shout to Stompy for using the back stage for his PA - there were many confused Labyrinth ravers staring at the empty DJ box at the front wondering where the music was coming from! Good trick, more promoters should try hiding the DJs, it makes the night more amusing and keeps you moving around!!!!! Also, thanks to the PA for all the free stuff they were giving out - Jamie, thanks for my signed Stompy record, even though I haven't got a record player I appreciate it! It was a bit of a rainy evening, and it was cold enough to freeze your glow-sticks, so the garden was not really used apart from a quick fag break. Shout to Dom and Colin for letting me sit on them so I wouldn't get wet - it's great when it is your birthday because you can emotionally blackmail people into getting wet for you! A shout has to go out to Steve and Gordon - dressed as the Clown and the Jester - next time DON'T SWAP OUTFITS HALF-WAY THROUGH THE NIGHT, you did everybody's brains in. I can't really talk much about the Drum&Bass room, because I didn't really go up there, but I have to say, some of the Junglists looked mightily confused when they walked through the hardcore arena and tried to make sense of the hardcore ravers! I have heard from a reliable source however, that if D&B is your thing, you should have been at Labyrinth, because the regular DJs and the guests absolutely mashed the place up. A wicked night in all arenas by all accounts. I DARE YOU TO FIND SOMEBODY WHO DIDN'T HAVE A GOOD TIME AT THE BIRTHDAY BASH!! GO ON, TRY IT...!!!! Sorry that this review hasn't actually contained much about Labyrinth, but heck, it was my 18th birthday, people kept giving me 'presents' and by the end of the night I could just about remember my name, let alone which DJs played, what they played.... also, to be honest, I was too busy running around having a laugh to write down sets and all that caper. Anyway, that's about it, don't forget Labyrinth New Years Eve, "The Last Waltz". It will be your last chance to dance at Dalston! Shout to everybody who was there to share me & Labyrinth's birthdays: Shelby Frootcake, Lee, Joe Retro, Claire, Marti, Steve, Charlotte, Lisa, Jaffa, Gordon, Tish, Colin, Dom, Jamie, Scott, Rodney, Tina, Derek, Chris Tangoman, Fiona, Donna, Skits, Del, Dave, Alan, Charlotte, Vicky, Nikki, Marlon, Paul, Frankie, Levi and anybody who I have forgotten, thanks for making my birthday great, loads of love SHOUT TO THE LABYRINTH FAMILY FOR A WICKED NIGHT, LET'S MAKE NEW YEARS EVE JUST AS GOOD - SEND LABYRINTH OUT IN STYLE!!
