What a wicked night!!! The atmosphere at the Que club never ceases to amaze me. Everyone was completely mad for it - just like a real rave should be! Live PA by Shades Of Rhythm was absolutely unbelievable and Easily the best PA I've seen for fucking years!! " it's every time I see the, It's every time I see the giirrrlll....." WOW!!!! Every set played was wicked - the odd anthem here and there but loads and loads of old skool that people have forgotten over the years - fuckin' baaaad!!! Ratty and Ray keith were bad, and Sy who played last dropped loads of wicked tunes but not ONE that was an 'anthem' - what a breath of fresh air!!! Going to this rave has just made me realise how narrow-minded some London ravers can be. Sy never ever plays sets like that in London - I can't help wondering if it is due to the fact that all New London ravers wanna hear is 'Far Out' and 'Compounded' over and over and fucking over again. Ah well. What a night! I danced so hard all night I've injured me foot! Anyway. I s'pose what I really wanna say is, I haven't experienced a crowd so up for it for a long, long time now. I can't quite make out why that is. The conclusion I have come to is that Birmingham ravers probably aren't ravers who travel up and down the country following a specific musical genre like us. They are probably just a group of people who only go out in birmingham most of the time, so when there is a big do at the que club, they will go just for a night of larging-it-up once a month. Whereas most of us travel to Milton Keynes, London, manchester, Birmingham, sheffield - all over the UK just to be part of another Old Skool/Hardcore rave because the scene is our life and we like to live every single second of it possible because we don't want to miss out. Therefore, we can't help comparing one rave to the next. Subconciously, we are all wondering if the rave will be full, or if the atmosphere will be like the last one, or if Vibes is gonna play cheese like the last time, or if the security are gonna be bastards like at the sanctuary, etc. We can't help it. Especially for those of us who have been raving for many years. Perhaps this is where we are going wrong? Birmingham ravers have no preconceptions - they go to the que club expecting nothing. They don't stand in the queue and think; 'I wonder if Sy will play Dj's Unite again?' or 'I wonder if the atmosphere will be anything like the one at Ravenation last month?' or 'I bet this won't be half as good as World Dance at Lydd Airport'. There is none of that. They make it what they make it and they treat it like a completely new night every time they go. Maybe we need to start learning this? Maybe we need to stop comparing raves to other raves and just treat every single night raving like a completely new night? I know it's easier said than done but we need to do something!!!!!! The state of the rave scene is breaking my heart and as every week goes on, it breaks a little more. Take that last comment as cheese if you like. I'm just being honest. The scene is my life and without it I have nothing, I am nothing. Help! :(
