United States of Hardcore

Future Dance 11th-Aug-2000

Well it was Friday the 11th August and time for the third Future Dance although there was nothing futuristic about this one. It was back to one of my fave hardcore eras, 1995/1996 which meant a night of my fave tunes, yum!! We eventually got into the venue after the usual guestlist fuck up and brief search and went straight through the Hyper FM room and Old Skoool room to see who was playing what in the main room. The room had aboiut 200 people stomping on the dance floor to Impact and Vinyl who played a good set of mainly 1996 style shinanigans. The first thing that struck me was how hot it was inside. The rave had only been going for a couple of hours and already it was 1000 degrees!! The secind thing that struck me was how few people recognised me in my footy top as opposed to my orange crusty number. Quality watching people wander past me to say hello to everyone else thinking I am just some other raver who happens to be nearby. This was to prove a constant source of ammusement for the remainder of the night as well as a talking point for everyone else;-)Time for the chill out. This was much improved from the last event with two bouncy castles although there were people crashed out on them all night s I didn't get the opportunity to bounce:-) Here I met Potfish for the first time, another new USHer. Next up in the hardcore room was Frisky who was playing anice selection of 1995/96 tunage on a stompy type tip. Not enough breakbeatage for my liking but a good set non-the-less from Canadas number, shame he aint around for longer as he could have been useful at Elation:-) Up next was the legendary Vibes. Now most of us had already decided what he was going to play. Technowonderland, Discoland, Rainbow in the Sky, Hold Me Now, cheese cheese cheese and finishing with Sing it Loud. Did he prove us wrong? Too fucking right. This was Vibes best set since his old skool set at the last Slammin' and these two sets are his best for a good couple of years IMHO. He played lots fo good quality breakbeatage from 1994/95 and despite a slightly stale middle section finished in style with classics like Ravers Choice 1, No More Tears, and a couple which I have from a Vibes mix tape from 1995 just to prove this is what he would have played back then. Good set from start to finish and proof that he can still cut it with the best if playing the right era! I recon he should stick to 94/95 personally!! During this set I was in and out of this arena and the old skool arena where Squirrel was also bringing down the place as only he can do with his old skool prowess. Quality mixing and with Ice on the mic (who got told off for mentioning another event, slap wrists;-) made for a tope piece of settage:-) Next up was a late Brisk who was supposed to be playing an UPFRONT set, or so it said on the line-up order. But nope, he played some quality bouncey techno style stompage which went down well with all inside the place. Unfortunately for me I was burning up so vchill out time again. Berlimey hectic night as it was now time for Energy who played his usual classy tunage for the eager crowd (well those who had the energy to keep going). Quality choonage from start to finish with a nice breakbeaty feel.! Next up was Kaos but as soon as I heard the first tune, Autumn Again, that classic 95/96 tune I decided to catch up on some chinwagging from the many present wafflers:-) Heh, here I whitnessed Chrissy getting her breats groped by U4EA, heh nothing like the obvious approach, Breaka, you have competition!! Also endless waffle with the Tony RD, Grant Epidemik, Frisky, nearly Brisk concening a future Elation but he ran off to chase Kaos up for some money and any other fool who said hello. Now it was time for the last set and it was Sy. Now this had the potential to be set of the night as he was superb in the oldern days but he played a very similar set to the last Elation set without the pure breakbeat tune and H of G made a surprise appearance. I haven't heard that tune for years!! Couldn't really hear the scratching very well due to poor sound quality but what I did hear showed the rest of the wanna be scratchers how it should be done:-)

Overall a good night, crowd were okay but this event has lacked something in atmos since the first event, dunno why! The sound was f***ing loud but seemed to be playing through a pair of socks for that muffled effect and my ears are paying the price now! The turn out was about the same as last time but most of the people were in the chill out for most of the night, maybe due to the temperature in the hardcore room being 1000 degrees:-) Bubbling hot! MC's were good although I aint too keen on Smiley and Livelee decided to show up after his Elation snub! Nevermind chatted to Wizzkid about future MCage who had a good night:) Decor had obviously been slaved upon for a good while showing that they certainly put the effort in and the laser was a nice touch despite it still being too light in the main room. Overall a good night and getting better speshilly as it only cost me 1.50 for a botle fo water all night!!. Roll on FD4:-)

Shouts go out to: Ponder, Sonic (I've still got yer whistle), Sam (cheeser number one), Kev, Emma, Peter, Joe, Paul, Carol, Androoo, Jo, Rich, Jo, Peachy, Chedda (cheeser number two), Conrad, Chrissy, Uplift, Lukozade, Mick Madness, UHF, Stix, Ruth, Wildcard, Beth, Ice Cold Pete, Potfish, Happy J, Mikey B, Ed Stiles, U4ea, Billybass and Missdee, Luna VC, Tina, Snow, Phick, MDMA, Joe King, Tony Raindance, Natasha, Grant Epidemik, Miss Go Mental, Impact, Frisky, Vinyl, and any other monkeys I met but due to my senile old bastard of a brain can't remember:-)

See you all at Raindance:-)
