United States of Hardcore
I had an absolutely terrific time at Slammin'. I didn't see any bad behaviour from security, they were at times vocally amplified, but I guess they do have to show their authority to keep control with such a large event. I didn't witness any off key behaviour like looking over the toilet cubicles or anything like that, it seemed much more relaxed, neither did I hear any awful stories. Respect for sorting that one out!! The atmosphere.. I found the atmosphere to be brilliant, both in Arena 1 & Arena 5, the two arenas I frequented the most. It was great to see so many new friendly faces, to me this is good evidence that the hardcore rave possee is still growing.. wicked! Set of the night goes to Brisk (Absolutely Banging!), Uplift (Top notch mixing & tune selection) & DNA (Some nice tricks & tunes.. saddened that we couldn't get to hear the new stuff) Now we come to the bad points.. which aren't even half a scratch on the April SV.. 1) Sound in Arena 1 was not loud enough, you could talk to the person right next to you and they could hear fine. I remember during 97/98 and Feb 99, you would walk into Arena 1 and the intensity of the volume would make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. The music found you, instead of you having to move near a speaker to intensify the sound. 2) DNAs set being cut off after just 25 mins. Was looking forward to this set alot coz of the fact that the whole set comprised of unreleased dubplates. Should have been in Arena 1 coz of this fact. 3) Hard House/NRG in Arena 1, clearly doesn't appeal to the majority of ravers. I was there for Billy Bunter's set, but I have to say I have never seen Arena 1 so empty.. can anyone back me up on this one? A wicked solution would be to restore Arena 1 as fully hardcore, coz it works (i.e. each hardcore set was rammed) Again someone please back me up on this, so it doesn't look like I'm just saying it. Restore Arena 1 back to it's former glory, and make Arena 5 - Hard House / NRG. Trust me, I'm 100% certain that SV magic would come back! Losing sleep over the November SV @ Denbeigh Leisure Centre.. See u all there!! Kev =)
