Morning all. Just a quick mini-review thingy. Got to the venue at 8.30ish after earlier distractions prevented me getting there earlier;-) Set up the room (well hung up three Elation backdrops) and we were ready to go. Hmm 'cept there was no bar staff so they couldn't open up on time. I was left bobbing to Breakas nu-skool breaks on my own and pulling faces at the people queuing outside:-P I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of choonage being played by the Bad Boy Breaka, good mixing (even though the monitor turned up late) and good tunes, nothing that stood out and grabbed me by the bollocks but good tunes anyway. The people were starting to enter the venue now and heading straight upstairs as most of the pople queuing were USHers:-) Next up on the decks was Chrissy who played IMO the best set of the night. A good selection of oldies at a nice pace, slipping classics like Gotta Believe, Euphoria, Darkage and finishing with SMD3 (b-side). Good stuff. Up next was Ponder who played a fine 94/95 set with some different tunes from the norm. No Incognito, Down To Love, On Top, Toy Town;-), Can U Feel It. He couldn't resist playing Higher Love, Let it Lift you, Samplemania and 95 Style though;-) Up next were Bwad Bwoy Bounce and Downer playing a melodic through to dark and nasty Jungle set. Managed to scare people off the dancefloor at least twice between them:-) Maybe 2 hours was a bit too much, but it seamed to go down okay with those who didn't run off to listen to Kenny Ken. Up last was Lukozade who played a fine set of old skool alongside nu skool breaks. Good mixing, good scratching, good tune selection and showing how you can combine the old and the new to produce a top set. MC Ice and MC Shotgun were outstanding all night and got the crowd going nicely, top one! Overall the Elation room was never full but always at least half full, the main room was very strange in that people weren't really dancing until Kenny Ken came on. There is definately a big name attitude which still exists in hardcore where many people came only to see Kenny Ken then left after his set. The event went okay though overall, we would prolly be interested in doing something like this again. The club was okay, a bit plush for a bunch of sweaty raver slags and I had to take my cap off halfway through the night (Wizbit got his nicked at the door) due to pedantic security issues:-) Video cameras everywhere so I made sure I gave each one a good cheesey grin. Funniest moments of the night had to be the huge number of bladdered people falling over, being sick and making arses of themselves. Shotgun wins best male performance for his passing out on the club steps antics and Chrissy wins best female performance for decorating the ladies toilets with her own very special paint:-) Hmm I said this would be a mini-review so I wont do any shouts:-) Just one big one to all there:-) Boing
