United States of Hardcore

Future Dance 4 21st-Oct-2000

Right, met everyone at the meetup at 6.30 and got to Castle Studios at about 8.00. It was late opening again which was a bit annoying but the frustration soon passed after seeing how much effort had been put into this rave. There was a funfair outside which I didn't actually go on but looked cool anyway, and the decor inside was incredible. The tekno room had all these men hanging in random places with metal poles sticking out of them.(That certainly started to twist my melon later on in the night). Plus the lighting was superb!

Anyway enuff of that. After a very slack search(didnt even check my bag) I walked into the hardcore room when Jonny Lee and Nemesis were playing. Started dancing straight away and even though there wernt many people in there to start, the room was soon rocking! A nice set with a couple of classics added in and ending in Diamond Eyes which I was very happy about.(love that choon) Next up was the man Brisk. In my opinion this set wasnt up to his normal standards; mainly coz I didnt think much of his tune selection but everyone else seemed to love it. At this point, me and kev were up on the stage going crazy...Wicked! From here on I cant remember the order of dj's(I did quite well) but I remember the actual sets. Vibesy came on after a bangin set by energy, I think, and played Tekno wonderland. I couldnt understand why but there you go. I mean its a good choon but I wish he would move on. I swear hes played that tune in every set hes done in the last 2 years! He played some other cheesey tunes, fucked up a couple of mixes and ended on that Braveheart tune. Nice tune. When hixxy came on, I was expecting something dodgy like at Slammin back in Sept, but noooooooooooo. He rinsed out every classic tune from 95'/96'. It was superb! I loved this set because I'm a cheeser but I dont know if it went down well with others. Nice one hixxy. I think at around this point I wandered into the bar room to catch the end of D.N.A's set which seemed to be going down well. Then after this I found myself in the tekno room.......OH.MY.GOD.!!!!! This was CRAZY! I walked in a tune which must have been 230bpm+. I didnt know who was djing so I asked someone. They shouted back,"PRODUCER,PRODUCER!" I cant describe how I felt at this point but was that a wicked set or what. YesYesYes. Anyway, moving swiftly on to my set of the night. U guessed it. Dj ENERGY! This was one of the best sets I've ever witnessed. It was fucking wicked. So pumping and hard. I couldnt stop going crazy to this set. I didnt recognise many of the tunes but they all had the most amazing build ups and hard beats. Nice one energy! I think the kaos set is worth a mention. Surprisingly good in my opinion but a lack of cheese and a very original choon selection. Unfortunately I was at my most fucked stage during this point so I'm having trouble recollecting what happened from here. This was the last set though(I think) hahahaha.

Security were wicked, really did there job well. Didnt see any trouble all night as expected and all in all a wicked night. The hardcore room was darker(good) and the only critism I have is the sound system could have been better quality in the hardcore room.

Excellent night.........well done to the Go Mental crew.

Shouts to everyone I met there and everyone who knows me. Respect.
