United States of Hardcore

Future Dance @ CRASH 8th-Dec-2000

Arriving at Vauxhall by train at 9pm with my mates we got on a tube to Vauxhall where I met the USH net crew for the first time who welcomed me, which was nice. Then we set across the road to Club Crash where a cue had already formed nicely. Saw Kaos at the door who beckoned me inside to show me around. The main arena seemed pretty good holding I`d say around 300 + people with a well lit dance floor and the DJ box situated at the end up some steps looking over the dance floor. The second arena had a bar with the DJ box against a wall on the Dance floor in a corner. It was a little smaller than I expected but didn’t disappoint one bit, . It had a wicked underground feel to it, which I really appreciated a lot along with everyone else it seemed The décor sound and lighting as always was top notch from the Go Mental crew as well. First set of the night was Devotion in the main room who played a great banging Hardcore and Freeform set with tunes like Hooligans volume 5. And The new Blatant Beats tracks as well. In the second arena was Bluey playing his regular early 90`s Ol skool set using tracks like “Your love” By the Prodigy amongst others. Next up in the Main room was Sharkey who played tons of new stuff that will come out next year on the Nu- Energy label collective including “Turn up the heat” “Shadows” and “Visions of Infinity” To name but a few. This being in my vote Set of the night went down a real storm with the rest of the crowd Next up was Kaos with another blinder of a set using all his new tracks which are coming out on one of his new labels (Go Mental Dark) after Christmas, and not the full on cheese he used to play earlyer in the year. All the tunes were top quality to dance to and included mad tracks like “Bad Ass.” 2 brand new tracks, 1 was a remix of a house tune called “pussy lover” by Balloon that he had just finished the week before. And a new Vocal track by DJ Energy for Go Mental which was really good. I had asked Energy about this track before and he had told me he wanted to show people that you can make a tune that has vocals and is not cheesy and I think he has definitely accomplished this with this tune. In the main arena, up next was Compulsions own DJ Demand who played a varied set using such labels as Obsession, Evolution, and Spanish Hardcore label Bit Records. An average set but still managed to get the crowd pumping. During this time I had wondered into the second arena to chat and to see what the other DJs were like. The first I saw was Wax City Records own DJ Nine who played a top notch Drum and Bass set with some quality scratching that got the crowd pumping really well. Also up was DJ Preacher who seemed to have brought a good following with him but didn’t really suit my tastes. He played a commercial type of House set which didn’t have much energy to it at all, but his mixing was spot on from what I heard and saw. Also in that room was Jimmy J and Squirrel with their usual hardcore sets which again went down a storm with the few that were in that arena at the time. Mean while in the main arena was DJ Energy who again like Sharkey played a lot of the new forthcoming Freeform along with favourites of his like “Sound Assassins.” “Crazy Styles” “Little Mermaid” and Take me up remix.” New tracks included mainly what Sharkey played plus more titles like “Take me away” and “Shadows” by himself and Canadian Producer Jus Rich who flew in a while ago to do some production work with him. He also played an extended set due to a surprise no show by DJ Brisk Starting next half an hour earlier again due to Brisks no show was DJ Impact who surprised everyone with a gabba set, that got the crowd stomping their tits offf till the final DJ of the main arena Vinyl who played the usual latest releases from Evolution. Blatant Beats, and Next Generation. The last 2 hours of my night were in the back room mainly, where I had the pleasure to see (in my opinion) the best Drum and Bass DJ around. Nicky Blackmarket, Who played a top set, And as I watched him DJ, I was drooling in envy at the skill this guy has got on the Decks. He seemed so cool stood their spinning all the tunes doing wicked little tricks while never batting a eye downwards keeping a look out on the crowd for their reactions the whole time. One time he was half way threw a mix when he just stops the record he is mixing and starts scratching with the beat and then simultaneously throws it in and spins the other record out. I intend to watch this DJs every move from now on when ever he plays at a rave Im at that he is. Last up in the back room I had the pleasure to witness DJs Kevin Energy and Jonny Blaze (Kaos) Back to back. They played a good Hard Trance, Hard House set with some real stompers and some quite Commercial and vocal tracks such as “Bass in the place” by Public Domain and “Where are you now” by the Generator. Great mixing all around and a great set to listen to before the long journey back to Sheffield. Maybe this club wasn’t as good as the enormous Castle Studios but for myself it was absolutely terrific. I do hope that Future Dance plan to hold another event here in the not to distant Future as I will definitely attend.
