Uprising 29th-Dec-2000

Arriving early for once thinking the Que. would be massive, We were surprised to find that we were almost the first their. So after 45 minutes waiting in the cold we were happy to be in side and listening to the first DJ of the night, Alchemist. Now I had been definitely looking forward to hearing Him play as he was the first DJ I specifically liked more than others and was surprised to see him play the first hour knowing that only 3 years ago he would have headlined a night at Uprising. Alchemist played some good old bouncy tunes such as “Don’t leave me alone.” By Paul Elstak and a couple of tracks from his own label. Burn out records including “Someday.” But after listening to the first half hour of his set, I realised that he may have been placed on the first hour due to his obvious rustiness, and that the people who are used to hear him a lot back when he was big at Uprising, Do not attend anymore. (Granted myself and a few others) So therefore the newer people at the event do not know him as good. Overall though a good set with some nice bouncy tracks to start the night off. Next up was CJ Glover playing a nice old school set which started to fill the dance floor nicely just as more people entered the club. The 10pm slot and my first of 2 sets of the night belonged to Revolutions Scottish, Evolution records master. Scott Brown. As of late Scott Brown has been impressing me loads with his new style set which consists of him playing all new unreleased British hardcore at the start of his set, such as “Now is the time remix” on Evolution. And an unreleased remix of “Here`s Johnny” by DJ Demand before letting rip half way threw with some new school Gabba straight from Holland. Such as “Punk Mother Fuckers” by Neophyte and “Slim but Shady.” On H.2.O.H. This style looks set to really set off this year over here so keep a look out for it. As it consists of the Hardest Bass lines and evilest samples, All played at 180bpm. (Even at 160 at times) this in effect is just slow Gabba but sounds absolutely wicked. (Normal Gabba that we are used to like Death Chant etc is made at 220bpm) Next up was Uprising Resident and retired favourite DJ Paul - O. Who played some of his all time Uprising favourites on top form such as “Tommy Knockers” And “Mind winder.” Paul got the crowd hyped as always, Proving that he is still a favourite and is well and truly missed by all at Revolution and Uprising. After a little chat with him before his set, I managed to blag the next DJ, Sy, To play some of my favourites and he did so too pleasing the crowd with such tracks as “Ice Cold.” And “Crowd Control.” Along with some excellent Scratching to boot too. The Second to last hour of the night seemed to be antisipated by all because it was time for the mad man. Mark E.G. Mark started his set with some slow mellow Trance building up threw his set with lots of uplifting tracks and some very nice dark Euro Trance like “The sound of fear.” By Don Diablo and throwing in some nice Techno stompers too. I guess my only complaint about his set was that I think I was expecting some hard ols school trance instead of new and uplifting tracks which he decided to play. He did fill the dance floor nicely but the tunes didn’t seem to put the crowd into an exceptional frenzy as a DJ of his calibre should do and it felt as though from where I was standing that the crowd were only on the dance floor just to watch his mad antics rather than appreciate his music. A little to mellow for me but overall as usual his mixing and placement of tunes were spot on. Last set of the night, And in my own opinion the second of 2 great sets was long time Resident and crowd favourite DJ Topgroove. Who played almost every single favourite of his collection I could think of, and getting the crowd up and dancing to the dance floors capacity as always. Topgroove. (along with Paul - O) I feel always represents Uprisings style the best and putting them as the head liner of the night for this event I feel should always be a must. As they always seem to play the most memorable anthems and this last hour was no acceptation as he rocked the end the night with “Pentium.” And “Piano In Trance.” A great night with an above average turn out, Security good as always bar one or two misunderstandings. Great décor and lighting as usual. Seems they managed to sort out that sound system for this event and a nice touch was that the DJ box had been moved to the stage. Plus we now have the added bonus of an extra hour along with Uprising been every couple of months. Wicked!

Shouts to Stephanie. Scott Clark. Martin. Klieny & Tracey. Mad Mick. Campbell. John & Emma. Dave & Fizz. Scott Majestik. Robby. J. Max. All the revolution crew. All the Adelphi crew and everyone I forgot. Respect. Lee UHF

A thought... Can it be a coincidence that 'STRESSED' is 'DESSERTS' spelled backwards.
