United States of Hardcore
It only seemed like a few days since the last Revolution, and now they were proud to announce it's fortnightly schedule. It had seemed to get a very response on this night as the crew turned out in their hundreds to represent their favourite DJ's (and night). I think this was mainly due to the fact that Revolution had gone back to it's 100% hardcore policy, and a seemingly very popular up and coming first hour DJ....Stig. He bought a whole coach load of people down with him from his home town of Scunthorpe. Stig played an absolutely wicked old skool set which I would have loved to have heard played later on in the night. His mixing was absolutely spot on, and so were his selection of tracks. I guess the only criticism was the structure, from old happy to old techno, but he really seemed to work it well. His tune selection consisted of "Sweet harmony", "One family", and finishing with the ever so popular Uprising track "Overdose", (not the Sharkey one but the '95 Bass-X mix on Terror Trax). Second up was FORMER resident Spinner who unsurprisingly let rip with a cheese fest of uplifting Spanish and vocal Evolution records. Next up was Sheffield scratch king CJ Glover. He played his usual love of old skool, mixed with freeform, and dosed over with his superb scratching talent. CJ's tune selection consisted of "Belissima", "Lost Generations", "Vampire" (Sharkey remix) and "Take me up" to name a few. Next to man the decks was Hixxy, who by fact hasn't played for Revolution (Uprising, to be a little more specific) for over 2 years now, so he seemed to be pleasantly greeted by the crowd. They seemed a little dumbfounded at him starting with a trance number ("In full effect" by Liquid Bass), instead of his good old days as "cheese king". They liked it though and stomped to their heart's content through the hour. He threw in a few of his B-Trax along with a new remix of "I wanna be a hippy", which may I say made me chuckle a little to hear an updated version of it. I then had an hour of babysitting for a well and truly intoxicated Scott Majestik, who spent more time lying on the floor than actually standing (if you could call it that). :) After that I was pleased as always to hear a nice fresh set from our own DJ Topgroover of Seductive records, who ripped the dance arena by dropping in a few favourite like "Halloween part 2". By the end of the set I decided to go for walkies, scoping out some friends and going to check out the facilities for the first time. They had all been fitted with flushes and toilet roll for a change......."which was nice". :) This, along with the lighting, security, Sega Dreamcast modules, and a better than usual attendance made it a more than decent night, leaving smiles all around. Last up was last minute replacement for Sharkey, up and coming DJ Max, who has changed his set to the freeform selection instead of his usual old skool or Brisk-like hardcore. His mixing as always was spot on as he played all the favourites such as "In Deep Trouble", "Take me up remix" and "One Consciousness" to name but a few. Unfortunately though it did seem to be just A and B sides of his tracks all the way through, due to his apparent lack of vinyl quantity in this form. I would hope he does expand it and come up with some tricks if he was to keep this style, as Glen (Max) is a very good DJ and is well deserving of recognition he gets. :) Well, after a wicked night we headed off home and straight to bed as Future Dance 5 is tomorrow and resident Spot has to slots to fill (wahey). Shouts to: My missus Steph (as always), An ever so intoxicated Scott Majestik, Scotty boy, Martin Spaced, Chedda, Mick the mad one, Max and Robin, Dirty MC D, and everyone I forgot. PLUR, Lee UHF
