Future Dance vs Revolution 4th-May-2001

Future Dance has only been going for just over a year now and I think it's very impressive how much they've managed to achieve in that time. They've now put on five good events at Castle Studios, and one club tour that they did in December. This event was their second club tour night and they had chosen to bring the night up to Sheffield and join forces with Revolution. The night was held at the Adelphi, the regular home of Revolution in Sheffield.

I had to miss the first hour due to work so I got there at about 10:00. As I walked in I saw that there was a huge green laser right at the front of the club. The Adelphi is not a huge venue and so this laser filled up the entire club, and really made it seem impressive. Future Dance had bought a few of their banners up from London and had also set up a merchandise stall inside the club.

First set was Revolution resident DJ Topgroove. He played a really good hard trance set, dropping in wicked tunes such as "Escape" and "Halloween", and for me played the set of the night. After him came DJ Uraken who had been flown all the way over from Japan to play on the night. I thought that the set he played was a little bit predictable, dropping in "Now is the time" and older vocal tunes such as "Set you free". He finished off with a few newer tunes though which I think were Raverbaby ones, and he really looked like he was enjoying himself on the night.

At midnight came Energy to play a banging freeform set. He started off with quite a bit of new stuff, including the mighty "Evil Returns". He then played a few recent tunes like "The Bastard" and a few classics like "Waves of Desire" and "Distornord". I was impressed with his set, but then I always am. :) Next up at 1:00 was Scott Brown. He started off with a few older tunes like "Elyssium" and "Healing Mind", then moved on to some of banging new style gabba tunes. Scott Brown is a favourite at Revolution and he went down well as usual.

The last hour was split up into two shorter half hour sets. The first of these was Future Dance promoter Kaos who has really improved recently. He played a set of his newer Go Mental Dark tunes, some of which I thought were pretty good. He played a really good remix of the drum and bass tune "Badass", and it was a world apart from his older tunes like "Sorry" and "Diamond Eyes".

The final half an hour of the night was DJ Sharkey, who I always love to see play. He started off with a few newer tunes like "Visions of Infinity" and "Turn the Heat Up", then played a few older tunes like "The Awakening". His whole set had a really nice and hard kick to it as usual, and it kept me dancing up until the end. :) Overall this was a very good night and I enjoyed it a lot. It was definitely busier than a normal Revolution event, and Future Dance seemed to have bought some of their trademark vibe up to Sheffield. The production on the night was very good, the DJ's all did good sets, and it was really interesting to see northern and southern MC's performing together on the same stage. It was a shame that more Londoners didn't make the journey up but then Sheffield is a long way to travel. The next two Revolution events are on May 18th and June 1st, with Robbie Long and Devastate on the first one and Mark EG, Sharkey and Majestik on the second one. The next Future Dance event is Future Dance 6 at Bagleys on June 15th. Sadly I can't make that but you definitely should do because it will be wicked. :)

Shouts go out to Lee UHF, Mick Moss, Martin Space, Jubei, Riddler, MC Wildcard, Beth, Stix and his girlfriend, Kleiny, Scott Majestik, MC Whizzkid, and Energy.
