GBH @ Lakota (Hardcore Heaven Tour night) 2nd-Jun-2001

Well I was skint and supposed to be going to Radiation at Shifnal, just up the road from me, but upon phoning to get directions we were informed that the event was in the function room of a small pub, so bollocks to that one, instead we decided to take the long drive from Birmingham to Bristol and spent our last few hard earned pennies on a first time visit to GBH @ Lakota, for their Hardcore Heaven Tour Night. And I'm glad we did !

They were a bit late opening the doors but the queue was quite small and we were in by 9:30, search was quite strict on the way in, metal detectors and such, but the security were friendly. What a club ! I loved it, reminded me of Diehard, its three rooms, a quiet bar type room with no tunes, great for a chill out, a small room with hard house dj's upstairs, we avoided that one, and the main room. The main hardcore room is on two levels, the dance floor is about the size of Technodrome at Bowlers and has a large Balcony overlooking it, where the bar is situated. Sound System was awesome and the lighting was pretty good too. The line up looked great for the night, Sy, Brisk, Force and Styles, Dougal and Scott Brown.

I was looking for some nice bouncy happy hardcore, you know the stuff, Toytown, Party-time and things like that, and it's what I got, at last ! First DJ we heard was someone called Skippy I think, not on the flyer, but it could have been Sharkey ! great start to the night lots of upbeat new tunes with a few classics like the original Now Is The Time ! what a tune, the place rocked. Next up was Breeze, another good set, but more upto date tunes this time, similar to what they had in the main room at Bowlers last week. Force and Styles blessed us next with some great choons like Pretty Green Eyes and Discoland, accompanying them was Storm, and he was buzzed up to the max, really went for it and got the place rocking.

By the way there were another couple of MC's on through the night and they were absolutely brilliant, wicked lyrics and both had a great tone, sorry guys, can't remember your names. Next up was Brisk, his usual set I think, a bit harder than the rest, but quite good, I sat the last half hour of it out. Wanted to regain some strength and sort out my wobbly head. I assumed Dougal would be up next, but instead some guy called Dj Dice played, put me on a bit of a downer really, was looking forward to Dougal, but he played a pretty good set. We left before the last set came on, I assume it would have been SY.

All in all a wicked night, well worth the drive and 12 quid to get in, a great little club with lots of places to explore and happy people too. Anyway best get saving your pennies folks, looks like we've got some serious raving coming up through the summer, loads of good events. Hardcores dead is it ?????????????????? Me thinks not.
