United States of Hardcore

Slammin' Vinyl vs Hardcore Heaven 28th-Nov-1998

Well what a top night.. an asbolute BLINDER!!! Totally wicked...!

Firstly, where the hell was everyone at the meetup?? For 15 mins my mates and I froze our bollocks (and tits) off trying to see anyone I recognised from ush.net... there was hardly anyone else by the burger van at 10pm... noone wearning luminous green traininers.. or a purple alien shirt.. couldn't see Joe anywhere although I did recognise one person behined the ice cream van... but I'm not sure she was on the meetup list or not!

Admittadly I didn't make the 1am one but that was because I was chilling out to Clarkee upstairs in the sanctuary... chilling out?? Yes yes I was one of the only 5 people during the last 15 minutes of HMS's set still dancing like mad to every beat stomping away and my body still aches.

Anyways here's me account:

6.40pm arrive 7.30pm door open 30 mins late but never mind 7.50pm Get in after being searched and what have you.... jump on the waltzer and drop my jaw at the cheap cheap prices on the merchandise stand...

(after here it goes a bit blurry like it always does... but:)

Good Tings: Brisks set was a blinder... really stompy and the likes. The old skool set by slam at the start in the Sanctuary was AMAZING.. in my opinion one of the best of the night. HMS was totally insane even though only 1 deck was working for most of it. Whoever was in the old skool room playing old jungle around 9.30pm was wicked too. Sharkey was MCing insanley and really pissing off Clarkee!!! Vinylgroover was ok, as was Seduction The atmosphere was unbelieveable.. everyone REALLY up for it! The number of people.. I haven't seen it that busy for at least a year and a half Playing paddington bear in the chill out room at 4.30am Happy smiley raving ravers! One of the dancers upstairs during HMS and Clarkee completely off his head and thinking he was a gorilla or something.. and then at 7am as we walked out... well lets just say he must be having one hell of a comedown!!! Mr sad and grumpy or what?! Music volume good and loud.

Bad Tings: It was absolutely FREEZING. The door handle on the car was frozen solid at 7am! Security happy as ever. Not. At times they were doing 1 in 1 out... which sucked when it wasn't even busy inside. Where were all the 'new' fairground rides ?? I didn't have enough money for the merchandise stall! Too many people bugging / offering drugs. I DON'T WANT DRUGS!!!! Didn't get to say hello to Sass although I was in there mate! Cool set! The drum n bass arena was DARK. Hardly any lighting, which reflected the mood at times in there. Where was everyone at the meetup?

And the happy hardcore was a disappointment. I still like happy hardcore but all my friends (who we class as 'punters') are going off it. Even they couldn't believe it. Every other song in the happy arena was either a remix or a ripoff. Another third were songs that were ooolllldddd. We were talking about the night to another friend and they classed the happy arena as crap. I couldn't believe it. One friend said he must be going off happy hardcore as he didn't like it anymore, and the other two said it was disappointing.

All in all a wicked night.. they have got to do another collaboration!
