United States of Hardcore

Resonance @ Mass, Brixton 13th-Jul-2001

I think its fair to say that Resonance are the best of the "smaller" promoters. Why do I say this... Well if you've been to any of the four events you'll know, and this must have been the best. Basically what I like about Resonance is you get what they say you'll get. By this I mean you DO get state of the art production, you DO get wicked lighting, booming sound, amazing party atmosphere, decent security, clean toilets and of course the best DJ's playing the best in Hardcore and Old Skool and that's exactly what I want when I go out.

The main difference on Friday to their last event at Mass must have been about two - three hundred people and I can see a capacity crowd turning up for the next one so I advise getting those tickets early!

Set of the night goes to a guy who is my personal favorite DJ and seems to be making quite a habit of playing the best sets at events at the moment, DJ Storm. Now here's a guy who has his heart firmly set on keeping Hardcore alive and helping it grow once again into the biggest and best dance music in the world (at the moment its only the best!!) I know his views on Hardcore don't match everyone's on USH but he and his DJ / Producing partner feel strongly (as do I) that Hardcore should be hard and fast, and well there's no one better at making or playing hard, fast, uplifting hardcore. Most tunes played were his own (including some brand new stuff) which meant you got to hear what you should expect Raindnace Records to sound like i.e. wicked!

Second best set goes to the new improved DJ Kaos. I love cheese, however Johnny nolonger plays the happier or the happy anymore and seems to have won over many, many new fans and his darker sound is what I would call dance music. You just have to dance to it, OK you can nolonger sing your heart out to it but because of how hard its got you dancing you probably wouldn't have the breath for it any way! I've always been a fan of Kaos but judging from what was said in the loo's a lot of others are now giving him the praise he deserves. In the last year he has played some of the best sets I've heard and put on some of the best parties and I think a few people may owe him an apology or two.

Third best set I'm afraid to say went to a DJ I really don't like, DJ Voltage, I hate to say he played a good set but I'd be lying if I didn't and his new tune Mayhem (I believe) ripped it up larging style and I can foresee that as being a dance floor filler for some time to come as it has real energy. Bosha and Cris E Manic to played lovely sets the only one I was disappointed in was Brisk and he was surposed to be the Headline act in the Hardcore room but I think we all know now that the big names no longer are the main acts. The only downsides to the night were the Hardcore room closing at 5:15 and the MC's were a bit quiet.

All in all an absolutely top night. Big respect to Tony and all the Resonance kru!

Billy Bass PS Kev, you know I'm only joking!
