United States of Hardcore
What an absolutely fabulous night! This was by far the best rave I've ever been to and I don't think we'll see the likes of it again. This will go down as one of the raves of legends, with people saying in years to come "Were you at Slammin Vinyl vs Hardcore Heaven". I was and I'm proud to say that I was part of it. I generally agree with Dave Curran's review but there are aspects we disagree on. The journey down went okay and they let us in at 7:30. The security were being really arsey, telling us that if we hadn't emptied our pockets then we'd be sent right to the back of the queue. On all the fences were newspaper cuttings warning about flatliners. A lot of people in raveland are quite worried about this. It was so cold outside but once I got in I soon warmed up. First in the sanctuary was Slam. He did an old skool set which I thought was mediocre but then I don't really like old skool that much. The sanctuary only seemed half full then so I was worried that it might be like that all night. However, next up was Dougal and as soon as he came on the whole place seemed to fill up instantly. He placed some well known bouncy tunes and everybody started going crazy and stomping away. The thing I liked about this event was that everyone was really friendly, even by rave standards. If you made eye contact with anyone then they automatically spoke to you, it was that cool. Before the event someone told me that they would turn away the Birkenhead crew but this was rubbish. I've never seen so many Birkenhead at an event and they were their usual rowdy selves. They didn't do anything significantly bad to spoil the event but they had their usual pissed up attitudes which annoyed me a bit. I went to the meetup but I couldn't see anyone either. Were you there lads or couldn't you be bothered? After that I nipped into the drum and bass room and bumped into Dougal. I said hello to him and he seemed like a nice bloke. Back to the sanctuary. Vinyl Groover was slamming, with a good selection of tunes. I missed Force and Styles because I don't like them and saw some drum and bass instead. The set up and decorations there were really good, as in the sanctuary. Magika and Stixxman seem to have made the switch to D&B, but I think Stixxman has lost his touch anyway. I went back to the sanctuary for Vibes and Live Lee. They are my favourites and they did an incredible set. The crowd were going crazy as they always do for Vibes and Live Lee. I managed to say hello to them both and shake their hands, with Vibes giving me a smile as if he recognised my face. I hope he does. Brisk was good, especially as he was with Storm. Storm was given lots of sets throughout the night which was good because all of the ravers seem to love him. Slipmatt seemed a bit mediocre but Hixxy was quite good. Seduction played one of the sets of the night. Last up was Sy and Unknown with Storm. Sy seems to be most people's favourite along with Vibes and it seemed as if this was the set everyone was waiting for. They played some great songs, even playing the old classic "Toytown" which was a pleasant surprise. Overall this was an absolutely perfect night and if new years Skelter is half as good as this then I'm in for a wicked night. I was curious to see how this would compare with Skelter on halloween, and although that skelter was an ace night, this was definitely better
