United States of Hardcore

Slammin' Vinyl - The Sanctuary 1st-Sep-2001

I ain't been down to the Sanctuary for a few years now - 'cos I've been boycotting it due to the security in the past (namely the confiscation and theft of my laser pen).

However, people have said that things had improved and so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and try it once again.

You won't be seeing me at the Sanctuary again for a long time!

What I witnessed and experienced from the security upon entering the venue was inexcusable. Taking people's horns and throwing them on a pile, not allowing camera's in. I tried to reason with the guy saying "You sell cameras in there - I will give YOU a tenner to let me use my own camera, rather than buy one." No joy.

One of the security said I could put it in the plastic bin and pick it up at the end of the night - but 'couldn't gaurantee that it would be there' [sarcasm] Hmmm - let me think....leave my 200 quid digital camera with you and your caring security - or turn around and walk out of there with it now. [/sarcasm]

Well, I walked out and had a few words with Vinytrixta - who passed me onto Grant.

After speaking to Grant, it became obvious that the Sanctuary have Slammin' and other promoters by the balls, and basically do what they like with regards to treating the punters however they like.

A big thankyou to Grant for sorting out getting my camera into the venue, but not every raver can complain to the promoter.

Once inside, a great layout and production all round and great use of the fasttrack arena. Music was mostly good all night, I also enjoyed bouncin' to Ray Keith at one point (but later found out that he's known as a bit of a cheeser in DnB circles) - but hey - it was good to me :)

Atmosphere in the hardcore arena, seemed a bit subdued - but hey, wouldn't you after having your noise making toys shoved in the bin?

A good night, by the Slammin' boys - shame it was spoilt for a lot of people by the venue.

Shouts to everyone I met that was there - I have a shite memory :)
