Well I'd never been to a North night in my new home town (I’m at Stoke uni), but I'd been told that it was the most bangin night around ! I'd heard most of the DJs at the Technodrome at Skelter, but wondered if the Midlands crew really could rock like the Skelter madheads. How wrong could I have been ???!!! I got there quite early seeing that it was finishing at 2am, wanted to get my moneys worth ! My mate Dave hadn’t ever been to this kind of night, but as soon as we got in there he was loving the tunes. Up first in the main arena was Dolphin and Addiction and it was a slow kinda nu-style set, not really my cup of tea, but there were a few bodies on the dancefloor already. I went to the toilet and saw this Birkenhead kid (he didn’t look older than 14, haha!). He had his 'lovely' cap tilted on his head and his tracksuit and said to me something like 'fooooooooookin ell lets foooookin ave it!'. When he heard Dolphin drop a wicked tune. he kind of vibrated on the spot and rolled his eyes, made me laugh anyway !! I love ya Birkenhead, the comedians of raves!! We walked into the 2nd room to catch Mark EG, wicked set as usual mate, then walked back to the main room to catch the end of Dolphin. Only it wasn’t Dolphin, it was DROKZ AND AKIRA!!! Oh my lordy lord, Akira was on the decks dropping some wicked 250 bpm tunes and Drokz was on the mic saying something in broken english, haha ! He was saying something like 'North we come to fuck you up ja!'. Me and my mate gave it some hotstepping to the Cunt records boys and I gotta tell ya, those tunes were some wicked shit ! Dunno why, but the tunes didn’t put me off at all, I was just jumpin around like a proper gabbahead. Then caught a bit of Mark Tyler, then sat by the speaker listening to Producer. Sat by the subs and just nodded my head but Producer’s set was absolutely wicked. Really minimal Deathchant stuff, but the beat changed slightly every 16 bars, keeping the crowd interested. Next up was Scorpio and, wow, what a set! Definitely set of the night! He played same kinda thing as Producer, but it had a bit more going on. Loads of nice riffs and samples, and he dropped this tune with those 'I said hey, whats goin on ?' speeded up. The crowd went mad to that one, the chipmunk vocals sounded like deranged happy hardcore ! But like all good things, the night came to an end ! Scorpio dropped one more banging tune and then everyone staggered out into the town that is officially 'the worst place in England to live'...I am proud! Big shouts to Sharkey (had trouble standing up ;), Scorpio, Producer, Akira (sorry for sayin you played a 'bad' set mate, I meant it was good ! he did look upset when I said he was 'bad' !!) and shout to all the Stoke crew for making it a wicked night!!!
