Slammin' Vinyl vs Hardcore Heaven
28th-Nov-1998
Wow what a night!!!
I can safely say that was one of the best raves i've been to. Me and
mates got to Sanctuary at about 10.15pm and were greeted by a
small queue. Shit, we thought are we the only ones here, will it be
half empty?? The answer was most definetly no, as soon as we got
inside all 4 arenas were ram jammed all night, and the atmosphere
was just brilliant.
Firstly I checked out the Sanctuary which was being staged by
Hardcore Heaven, and believe me this was the arena to be in. The
production was second to none with amazing lighting and a wicked
stage so everyone could see the DJs and MCs clearly. The only bad
point was the sound levels which wasn't as high as usual Sanctuary
standards, but then again you can't have everything!!
The first DJ I checked out was Vinylgroover who played a wicked
set of upliting vocal tunes to get the crowd going. After that Force
and Styles came on, which usually I don't like but the set they
played was preety good and certainly got everyone jumping.
Everyone's favourite Vibes stepped up next accompanied by the one
and only Livelee and busted out some top tunes, but I think Vibes
played a bit more cheesier then usual and perhaps wasn't one of the
better sets he has played.
Next, it was time to chill outside ( which was bloody freezing!! ). The
funfair was present as ever and the dodgems seem to attract more
excitement then the actual arenas!! Then I decided to see what
Slammin Vinyl could offer the ravers as I decided to check out the
Rollers for a bit of D & B.
This arena was also kickin. Packed out all night with a mad
atmosphere, Full marks for production, everything was on top form
with excellent sound and lighting. I loved the way in which they had
half naked women dancing inside cages on the stage, certainly put
a smile on the ravers' faces ( well the blokes anyway ). All the DJs
were playing some wicked tunes especially Andy C and Brockie
who get the crowd going mad on the dancefloor. The old skool arena
was also situated in the back of the Rollers and that was absolutely
banging all night.
Back in the Sanctuary, Slipmatt was keeping the packed arena on
cloud nine palying his unique set of hardcore and D&B fused
together. This made a welcome change from the usual cheesy stuff
and certainly got the crowds reaction. Upstairs in the tekno room
Sass and Mark E.G were banging out some mad techno and the
atmsosphere in here was just as mad as the technodrome at Helter
Skelter. Why is it the sweetest nice girls are always found to be
going mad in the techno room?? Who would have thought it??
Anyway sadly as time rushed by the night was drawing to a close,
so I decided to catch Sy and Unknown back to back, and believe
they didn't disappoint especially with the one like Storm on the mic
hyping up the crowd. When the ' Toytown ' was dropped everyone
just went completely radio rental!! Even at the end everyone was still
smiling and wondering when the next Hardcore Heaven will be
because I'm sure everyone who came will definetely want to check
out the next one.
The best thing about the night was the atmosphere. I thought the
atmosphere there was a lot better then at recent Helter Skelters, as
everyone was really happy and friendly and there no attitude at all.
The only dickheads who were there, were from, yes you guessed it
Birkenhead! who did they up most best to look as hard and terrifying
as possible. but luckily the proper ravers just ignored them and
spread the happy vibes about.
All ravers should definetely check out the next Hardcore Heaven or
Slammin Vinyl it will be definetely worth it!! :) :)
Big shout and major respect to everyone who came :))
All the best
