United States of Hardcore

Future Dance 7 - Bagleys 19th-Oct-2001

Best event I've ever attended. Top quality production, sound, atmosphere, Security and a packed venue! Oi Kronik, Loony and Jenny - you all missed a blinder!!!

Due to an incident before hand involving me accidentally treading on a live wasp bare footedly leaving me stung and with something stuck in my foot, my nights stomping was left in 'jeopardy' :(

But by the time the tunes were kicking out I decided to combat the extremely 'agonising' pain in my left foot by acting upon the words of wisdom; "This is Future Dance. Time to get more fucked and get Rocking!!!"

Started rocking. Bout an 1hr and a half later and was both fucked and rrrrrrrocking.

Spent most of my time in the HARDCORE room although I paid at least a 20 min visit to most of the sets in the old skool room. I did also spend a large amount of time outside waffling to just about everyone. Me, Kev, Myring, Efeks, Phick, Astraboy, Hektik and Skams had a good laugh on the bouncy castle too :)

Menis and Dair played a hard set full of their recent material on Hectech and a few of the newer Next Gen releases eg; "Life rmx", "About U". Went mental when one of 'em dropped "The Bastard" TUNE!!! Another good thing was that all the MC's turned up nice and early which was a surprise :)

Apart from the 1st and last sets I cant remember times so in no apparent order:

Brisk and Ham. Quite a few Next Gen classics like "I got a feeling" and some of their newer releases as well. The best thing bout this set was not the music, no disrespect to the DJ's, but the magnificent 'Empress Stah' stole the show by a long way in my mashed up opinion. She brain bashed everyone in the room and was a huge success, she even stayed afterwards and had a dance! I spoke to her outside the merchandise stall and she said that she really enjoyed it and I hope she makes a return. But ask anyone there - her antics really aren't for the faint hearted.

Hixxy & UFO. Full of upfront Raverbaby and New Infinity material, who would have expected different though? Cant remember a great deal unfortunately. Do remember rushing to "Deep Inside" and shouting along to "Why oh Why" in particular though. As I was walking into the Old Skool room Hixxy dropped "Castles in the Sky." So, being human, I ran straight back into the main room all the way to the front.

Marc Smith & Sharkey. A full hard set of Freeform with a little bit 'Dark' hardcore. Tunes I remember most are "Hooligans 2" "Take me up" coz its so uplifting and "Bad Ass" coz its so dark + wikkid u just gotta rock to it. Didn't catch a lot of this set due to it clashing with Vibes. I was well looking forward to this set coz im a cheeser and I missed it last time :( got in there but there was NO Livelee, waited for 25 mins then fucked off coz I don't really like breakbeats and if there aint no Livelee then it just aint the same.

Vinal and Impact next in the oldskool room and this was my joint favourite set by a very long shot. Wasn't in there from the start, wish I was though!!! As soon as I walked in "Hardcore Fever" was in the mix and if I remember correctly it got a rewind, this was followed by "31 seconds - hardcore mix" then "Here I am" which the whole room sung along to. Others that they played included: "Eternity", "Muzik", "Rainbow Islands."

Pure quality. I know the future isn't the classics but everyone loves them and I reckon that one classic set in the main room at any rave makes it a much better night.

Last set in the main room. Go Mental V's Nu Energy! Wasn't gonna miss a minute. Pure upfront tunage and Ethos, Odyssey Storm and Whizzkid tearing it up on the mic. The only set that probably bettered Vinal and Impact in my view. Spot on mixing and the room was packed and really was ROCKING!!! Two re-winds in one set as well, isn't very common in a hardcore room. The best of choonage from the two labels and a wide selection of dubs too. "Take me Up", "The Baptist", "Bad Ass", "Get Fucked", "Pickles" and "Fright Night" and a whole stream of more hard and fresh tunes!

Didn't visit the techno or hardhouse rooms, to be honest I completely forgot bout the techno room.

Shouts to absolutely everyone. Lists take far too long, especially Skams and A.B. coz you were both well and truly mashed!!!
