Raindance - The Summit, Wisbech 19th-Apr-2002

This night exceeded all my expectations about it being a great night, the Summit is a great club, kind of like The Colloseum, in that it's very clean and well maintained. Getting there with Caine and 'lil Kev at 8pm, we managed to park the GT-4 right outside the club, then get in a pre rave beer in the local pub. When I say local, I mean local, all the eyes were on us as we walked in. Cries of "No tails, your not from round 'ere", i'm sure could be heard and u know that when a pub has a pet cat that sleeps in it's windows, it's a local pub for local people.

So, on to the club, a little queue, consisting of Jimmy, a mad raver in a Go Mental jacket, and a few drunken teenage girls....the polite security let us in. Straight to the "Red" hardcore room, which was done out quite nice, with what looked like a hot air abllon providing the ceiling drapes. Lukozade was first on the decks, playing a nice fast selection of upfront stuff, incorporating the tunes he, Steve and Chrissy have been making in to his set which had the small crowd moving. Up next were Cris.E.Manic and Uplift, who also played a storming set, featuring lots of Raverbaby stuff and also there own material. This seemed to attract a large crowd to the little hardcore room, which stayed pretty much busy all night, and seemed to rock it to the max ! Billy Bunter was next up, who played a blinding set, as expected, dropping the tunes I thought he would, and a couple I wasn't to familiar with. This set was excellent, although he didn't play 'Musical Moods', which I asked for, REMEMBER IT NEXT TIME BILLY/DAN ! So up next, the man himself, DJ Storm...would he compromise his trademark hard fast style to a crowd who, for the most part, weren't the usual raving crowd ? Did he f**k, I noticed a number of people clear the dancefloor when this set started, but by the half way mark, many people were back and having it to the sounds of Raindance Records ("Hey it's you" is gonna be massive). This for me, was the hardest set of the night, and went down really well with the crowd :)

Next up was HB, I cant comment on this set, as I went upstairs at this point with the one they call Potfish for a "Ponce Up" to some house beats in the Pussina House Party. Jack Bass was on the decks, but he wernt on the flyer?????? Nevermind, the small crowd up there seemed to enjoy it and was good all the same. Playing familar club tunes like Camisra and Let Me Be Your Fantasy, but he didn't play anything by Sash ! Back downstairs then for the last 15 minutes of HB, which still had a large crowd going mad for it, and from what I heard, HB played a blinder...nice one Mark ! Last up then, Dougal, who seemed to attract a lot of attention from the drunken teenagers inside the club. He played a set from his new Essential Platinum stuff and some of the Raverbaby / Jelly baby stuff. Say what you like about it, but I like it, and enough people were having it till the last !

To pick one set, would be unfair, so I would like to say well done to all the dj's who played sets, they were all excellent. And I would also like to send shouts to: Caine, Lil Kev, Billybass, AndyM, Potfish, Charlie and James, Sweetstar, Hattrixx, Dan Desire, and the small collective of ush.net ravers who actually made the effort to go, remember the old, "Ohhhhh u have to travel to places other than London, otherwise your not supporting the scene enough" and all that palava ? Well, at the next one, lets hope to see more of you up there making the effort, shouts to all dj's and mc's, BIG Shouts to Richard and Billy for a great party, see ya at the next one !
