United States of Hardcore

Devastation - Evolution, Cardiff 28th-Jun-2002

This was such a wicked night i just gotta write a review of it! Only went at the last minute, got a lift with my mate james (cruze) and wiggi from organised chaos (cheers for the lift bruv) got there about quarter to 1 ish, caught the last bit of breeze and styles b2b, the venue was pure class, like a cheesey zanzibar or somethin, real lush surroundings and plenty of WOMEN!! nice to see so many girls gettin down to the hardcore! breeze finished off with 'let me fly' and the crowd were havin it proper.

i think sy was on next and he started off with an absolute stormer, dunno what it was though! storm was on form and sys scratchin was, as always, the mutts nuts. he dropped a few predictable ones like 'get up' by scott brown and 'turn up the music' and also dropped 'elysium +', which got a rewind cos the crowd loved it so much! i gotta say 'elysium +' is my fave tune at the moment, gwan mr brown!

after sy was hixxy i think. hixxys first 5 or so tunes were really hard and dark, not what you'd call 'happy' in any way but still recognisable as raverbaby. i was hopin he would drop 'lost boys' and he didnt dissapoint, what a hero! hixxy also dropped a few more big raverbaby tunes and by then the dancefloor was rammed. another point is the ravers, everyone behaved themselves and there was a nice mix of ravers and dressed up people, everyone was havin a wicked time right until 6am and i didnt see any trouble all night.

brisk got on the decks after hixxy and his set was amazing. started off with a few old dutch tunes and even dropped 'luv u more' by paul elstak, yes boss! brisk also threw down a few new next gen tunes for the crowd, including 'unlock ya brain', 'stay here forever' and that one that uses a sample of pink. brisks set went down really well but his finale blew the f**kin roof off, EYE OPENER SCOTT BROWN REMIX!!! i dont even buy hardcore tunes but had to ask him if it was comin out (yes brisk that was me in the cap who ran over hahaha), apparently its comin out on next gen.

next up was dowster, who was set of the night for me. i think he played pure raverbaby but his selection was flawless. he played 'feel it in the air', 'lets fly remix' and that rip off of 'i can see it in your eyes, theres somethin you wanna tell me', dunno the tune cos the original is a bit arse, but the raverbaby version hits the nail on the head.

dodgee played the best freeform set ive ever heard, droppin 'identify the beat', 'chemical warfare' and one of my faves, 'liquid nights' by fade and melody, what a tune!!! last tune of the night came around a bit too early for my liking but ah well! 'wipeaway' by energy got rinsed and then we all got in the car and drove as fast as we could out of that forsaken country (kiddin!), and now im at home bolloxed waitin for the wife to come round and gimme some love hahahahahhahahahahahahah!!

another point: the mcs! storm and wotsee were the bollocks as always but i gotta hand it to blaze, does anyone else agree that he was best mc last night? i think the geezer did wicked and his rhymes were catchy and uplifting, big big big shout to mr blaze!

if anyone saw a kid with a monkey business t shirt on and blue baseball cap, that was me. bit dissapointed with some of the welsh massive goin home early and leavin that dancefloor a bit empty by 6am, but that gave me more room to throw some crazy manoevres around on the dancefloor. anyway they probably had to go and wake their sheep up or somethin for some early mornin lovin (oh the old jokes are the best )

overall, 10 out of 10, you lot know it was wicked!

shouts to cruze (fallin asleep at 4am, ooh er ducky), wiggi big yourself up mate cheers for the lift, kate, wotsee, blaze, dodgee, sy, hixxy, storm, dowster, breeze, styles and everyone i spoke to. big up wales!!!
