United States of Hardcore
Had a nightmare start to the journey there after the plane was delayed for 2 HOURS from Belfast which meant myself and Blaze now had no chance of a pizza hut before making the onward journey from Bristol to Cardiff.... oh well :( Arrived at the club at around 10:40pm and i was informed that Sharkey had not been able to make it due to traffic problems, which was a shame. By the time all the usual hello chats had taken place outside we entered the club around 11:00pm and were greeted by what was looking lke a good night in store, the club was filling up nicely and Breeze and Styles were just about to step up for their set. Top set from these two, dropping all manner of tunes into their set, some scott project stuff and other bits and bobs, along with their own stlye of hardcore seemed to work very well. Nice one! next up at 1am was the one and only Sy, what i caught of this set was good all round, and the dancefloor was looking very full indeed (with MC Storm once again demonstrating his amazing ability to get any crowd to be almost eating from his hand) but i did admittedly spend alot of the time next door as Ian M was rippin it up in his usual aggressive style, Some good new stuff dropped by Mr. M along with some classics for the dancefloor to lap up! Made my way back into the Main arena just in time for Mr Raverbaby himself, Hixxy, steppin up. A very diverse set here, starting off with some German Trance pitched up to about 160ish (which sounded f**kin awesome) then midway through into some of his own new material (that lost boys tune is wikkid imo) and finished off dropping a couple of anthems which the crowd absolutely lapped up. His best contribution of the night tho was surely the pictures he took on the night , a couple of MC Blaze the podium dancer! and quite a few nice lookin bottom shots when the dancers of the scandily clad female variety were in the podiums) Next up was Brisk who, for me anyway, played the set of the night. ROCK hard from start to finish, furious pace matched with, as usual, faultless mixing. The tune he finished which i have not heard before, a gabber remix of 'eye opener' (with me being over here and out of touch a bit it is always good to go to an event and hear a tune where you think 'WOW') i really like this one, really really raw but with enough elements of the original in there to keep the nostalgia alive :) But again, that was one HARD set. Wikkid stuff. Dowster was up next, playin some his and Uprises' new unreleased stuff, along with alot of unreleased RB stuff all of which went down really well. Some of their own stuff is absolutely blinding and imo these two are definately two of the scenes rising stars.(if only i could make tunes like theirs!) At around 4:30am(ish) it started to look a little emptier in the main room, but seeing as this is the first time that an event of this calibre had been staged in Wales for a long, long time then it was only understandable that the locals' stamina levels would not be upto scratch, but surely with more devastations planned over the next few months this will improve! Last set of the night belnged to Dodgee, another good set with lots of hard and dark tunes coupled with his awesome scratching ability. The difference in styles between the beginning of this and the end of the last set momentarily had people flooding back to the dancefloor from their 'lightweight comfy seats' but alas, it was not to last as tiredness was really taking its toll on what was a very, very up for it crowd. They tried hard (bless em) but alot of them could just not keep up. Although there were at least 150 peeps still on the dancefloor right up until the last kick had died away and fatboy Blaze had said his goodnights..... All in all an excellent first event from Dowster, Simon and Wotsee and it was good to see such a fantastic turn-out (final numbers were around the 1000 mark i think) but what is good to bear in mind is that if this event does not clash with another high profile event again then the turnout could be awesome (and someone would get their Omega ;) ) Well that babbled on a bit but well done boys and long may it continue! Summy PS. Mc's on the night: Storm, Whizzkid, Wotsee and Blaze all performed to their usual high standards and kept the crowd involvement high right through the night. PPS. BIG SHOUT TO TOMBOLA, GLAD TO MEET YOU AT LAST!
