United States of Hardcore
After arriving just after 10pm, a quick search, allowing us to take a camera in (niiiice one) and we're into the outside complex waiting for a female member of the group to have her bag extensive searched. A quick wander round and then off to the toilets to relieve ourselves - this is where the first amazing sight was. There was a toilet attendant. A guy actually keeping the toilets clean and fresh and stocked with paper towels and loo rolls! Not what I go to raves for but, a great indicator of the little details that Slammin' seemed to have got right this night! Into the hardcore areana to start dancing in a prominent position to spot Peter, Charmy and co. when they entered the door - only to spot them after 10 mins dancing a few metres away from us. Anyway we danced to the last half of Hixxys set - a pretty good set actually. 11pm and Force & Styles up next but we had to be dragged outside for the ush.net meetup with all the people from the 'Net. Surprisingly a very good turnout, allowing people to put faces to names of people that they chat to on the 'Net. It was cold, but we were very pleased that there was no rain like the last Slammin'. 12-1 spent some time in the hardcore room with Vinyltrixta - very underated - top set and wandered down to check out the sounds of Clarkee - I only stayed for about 20 mins - but people told me his whole set was fantastic with it being a bit different to his normal set of super hard banging techno. Brisk was up at 1am - which was also the time of the second 'Net meetup of the night - so I missed the first 20 minutes - but the last 40 mins were as usual - exceptional. Ohhh - did I mention the lasers in the hardcore room? I love my lasers - they're fantastic and these were quite simply the best I've seen in a long time. Give the laser setup crew gold medals all round. There 2 twin multicolor lasers at the front providing red, green, blue and orange. The placement of mirrors and mirror balls split the beams into hundreds - top class stuff! Downstairs to venture into the techno room and the sounds of Sharkey. I'm not usually into techno in a big way - but you just can't help yourself with the totally up-for-it techno bods and the hard trance sounds of Sharkey - who despite having hooooj bags under his eys (get some sleep and look after yerself - [My Girlfriend]) was giving it his all behind the decks. Top stuff to any DJ that makes it look like he's enjoying himself. Finishing off the night - Slipmatt with an average set - compared with those that went before him. Well what can I say - Slammin' Vinyl seem to have sorted out the problems of overcrowding at the last Slammin' at Bagleys - possible a lower limit on the number of tickets available? There was just enough room to dance comfortably in most areans - although getting through the Drum n Bass arena proved very difficult. A nice touch was to move the people on, who were sitting on the floor making the corridors even smaller! Attention to detail is soon to be a major factor in your choice of night out. Have Slammin' set a new level? Keep up the good work and I'll see ya at the next one. Big shouts going out to everyone that I met at Slammin' - especially all the people who showed up for the immensely successful meetup!
