Rave Rezerection - The Arches, Glasgow 13th-Jul-2002

Wicked night, a few slight problems - place didn't open till 9pm due to problems with the sound and there were some shady stories about security, but what can ye do ? Also a major ballsup with Rotterdam Terror Corps meant they didn't play, though Distortion played late in the main room. Worked out great for me as I got to cover his set in the Resistance room, peak time shenanigans.

Place was nicely filled up, a few people getting turned away at the door, god knows when that last happened at a hardcore night in Scotland. Spent most of the night in the Resistance room, which for most of the night was pretty packed. Armageddon Project smashed it completely, playing loads of new style that I ain't heard before, good to hear there's still plenty of dark stuff being released amongst all the cheese ! Me & Stress covered the next hour for Distortion, good stuff from Stress, ain't gonna big meself up but the crowd seemed to enjoy it - me getting and giving plenty of middle fingers like the old Loftgroover days. A massive respect to the crowd for that one!

After that was Rowland The B*****d, played a good hard techno set but seemed to thin the crowd out as they were only up for hardcore by this time =/ Wicked all the same. Final hour was Producer, the guy just doesn't know how to disappoint, just as f**king amazing as last week at North, as usual starting slow and winding up at mental speeds. Room filled out again for this and atmosphere went through the roof. Quality stuff!!!

Atmosphere was banging all night in all the rooms, didn't spend long in the main room, but there was plenty of lightsticks and whistles at full volume. Totally mental, can't get over how good it was mainly because it's been so long since Scotland's seen anything like it. In a wicked venue as well - like the Drome but without the grime, portaloos and sewerage. Dunno yet if there'll be another one, but on the basis of this there's the demand for it. Who knows, the most encouraging sign is that there was only officially one classics set the whole night (a few other dj's put in a few oldies here & there). And people like Scott Brown & Distortion playing the new stuff went down well. Let's hope it gets going again !!

Shouts to: Al, Boony, Smurf, Producer, Grant, Miko Glacid, Stef, wee Andy, Ewan, Colin H, Deke, Tails, Nick, brain's failing so I'll stop now - oh aye, biggest shout goes to the crowd during my set, never had a reaction like that before !!
