United States of Hardcore
It's always great to see people starting up their own hardcore events, like the TNT promoters did four months ago. Here was their fourth event, once again at The Adelphi in Sheffield, and was my third of those four. I arrived here right at the very start and was inside when it opened at 9pm. I was virtually the first one there so I got in straight away with no queuing. The security were fairly friendly and I paid my £7 entry on the door and headed inside. As is normal at The Adelphi the decks were on a stage at the front of the dancefloor, with the MCs also located there. The sound system was good and loud, and I didn't notice any faults with it all night. The first DJ I saw was Xstatic, a local up and coming DJ. The last time I saw him he impressed me and he did again here. He played a wicked hard trance set with thumping kickdrums and dropped in the new "Acid fighter" tune. It'd be great to see him back here again soon as his tune selection was spot on. :) After him came co-promoters Lang-E and Part-E playing back to back, with them doing half an hour each. Their set was pretty upfront and they started off with "Turn up the music", then played "Bust it", "Serious hardcore" and the "Pussy lovers" tune with samples out of "From Dusk Till Dawn". It was a good set and bouncy all the way through. Third set of the night was the special guest Luna-C. His set was unbelievably varied with him playing breakbeat, bouncy and jungle tunes. He dropped in "On a ragga tip", "Take me away", "I'm raving, I'm raving", "Super sharp shooter" and the jungle bootleg of "Ready or not". The highlight of the set though was when he dropped in the original "Jump around" by House of Pain to grins and looks of amazement from the crowd. He added to that some real funky scratching as well as in other parts of the set and his mixing was quality. Following him came Jay Prescott who played a very fast and hard gabba set, the hardest of the night by quite a long way. He dropped in the "Inspector Gadget" tune and "Mindripper" on Deathchant, my favourite gabba tune EVER. Next up came Uprising regular Spinner along with local up and coming DJ Jake Nicholls. These two played a hard and bouncy set which tended to steer more towards older tunes, and they played "Pump up the noise" by Marc Smith. Final set of the night was Scott Brown, always popular up here. I have to say that he played the best set I've seen him do for a while. He played "Elysium +", the Kosheen remix, the remix of Push's "The Legacy", "Cold as Ice" and "Eardrumz" which he finished off with. He also played a few newer tunes including his new remix of "Eye opener", a tune with the lyrics from Scooter's "The logical song" and even a new nu-style gabba remix of "Hold me now". I thought that Scott Brown, Lang-E b2b Part-E and especially Xstatic all did good sets, but for me the set of the night had to go to Luna-C for playing such a varied and different set. The attendance here was a bit lower than at previous events but the music was very good and as always the South Yorkshire ravers were well up for raving. I also liked the selection of MCs that they had here. Uprising residents Domer and Space kept all the Uprising regulars happy, and the others were Wotsee, Buzz and Bombjack. All of these three are talented up and coming MCs and they are neither local regulars or big event regulars, so TNT have these three different new boys to give them an edge. The only real criticism I can make of the night is that there was no food there. I was starving hungry by midnight and there weren't even any crisps or chocolate on sale behind the bar, never mind hot food. Keep an eye out for the next Total Noise Therapy event because after four events the night is showing a lot of potential. :) Shouts to Rich B, Lang-E, Part-E, Lee UHF, Martin Space, Jonesy, Charliiieee, Number 2301, Kenno, Ashley Speight, Banksy, Alarm, Kerrie, Lee, Scott Potential, Andy Freestyle, Phil Friction, Wotsee, Buzz, Bombjack, Jake Nicholls, Sam, Hirsti and his mate for a long chat about why Liverpool are better than Man United, Shame, Trigg, Kleiny, Spinner and Luna-C.
