Frantic Presents Timeless 25th-Aug-2002

So its Sunday morning and ive just woken up, Do I go church(Yeah right!), Hit the shops or have a rave up down at Camden palace!

The event was Timeless by the promoters of Frantic . Its a sort of modern old skool night for hard house/trance. But as the modern hardhouse/trance scene aint really been around that long the tunes were form over the last 4 years.

I had been to one off all day event at Camden before(Laboratory) so I knew what to expect. The event was on from 12pm-8pm that does sound a bit bizarre but it think its great. You get to have a good rave up without losing the next day to sleeping it off.

We got there about 1ish with a fair size of clubbers waiting to get in. Made me laugh as Camden Palace is right on the high street with people doing their Sunday shopping. Then us lot buzzing waiting to get in the event. After about 10 mins we were in, sooorted Perry!.

As you walk into the venue you have walk thought a small tunnel, You can start to really hear the turns and see the lighting and you start to get a real buzz of excitement. Then you come out of the tunnel are you standing on a balcony looking over the main dance floor with a full house at 1pm having it! If you have never been Camden its a wicked venue. It sort of looks like a place were you would go to watch a opera. Its even got the bits on those booths on the walls where you would have posh people sitting but instead there's sweaty ravers going for it.

Production was spot on, The sound system was phat and lighting was amazing with some of the best lasers ive seen. The way it should be! When I come to events like this I cant believe what we put up with venues like Bagleys in London.

On to the music and Ian M was up. Been wondering where the bounce had gone in hard house?. Here it was, Ian M was rinsing out the bounce sound to the max. But in a good way ,his set was not fairground sounding at all. Great set to get me warmed up.

Next up was the Legend Lab4. To say im a Lab4 is a bit of understatement.I think there style of Live PA is going to be a big part of the future of Hard Dance. Not so much their sound(What I do think is good) but the way they perform, You do get a real sense of it being "live". Yeah ive seen many a hardcore live pa over the years. But two blokes pretending to bash keyboard that aint even plugged in over a Dat just don't cut it.Lab4 played all there old skool tracks, so u can forget about candyman being dropped. Tho I did enjoy there set is was not in the same league as there modern sets. Now on to my first moan of the night it got so busy during there set. it was just too rammed and we had to get out of there. On to my second moan, There is just no where to chill out! yeah there are plenty of places to sit, but you cant get away from the music. There is a second room/bar that would be perfect to have some more chilling tunes on the go. But with Harderfaster.net hosting it wernt going to happen tonight. In the end we Settled one of the top baloneys and im glad we did. We met some class peps from Oz/Nz. Like I prick I said "o i know someone form New Zeeland called Dimi you know them?" After thinking what why did I say that what a nob i am! Too my surprise someone said yeah I used to work with her. Small World eh?

After a good waffle back to the dance floor and it eased it up a bit from earlier on. I Think this was party due to that had open up the stage bit for peps to dance on were Lab4 were doing there thing earlier on.Ed Real was up and knocking out some classic uplifting trance business. With tunes from K90 to the old 98/99 club anthems. Great stuff and definitely my set of the night.

Phil Reynolds was up next a played his usual Hardhouse/Trance crossover tho he was tending to lean to towards the hard house side of things tonight. Top stuff!

Next up were the main headlines of the night Andy Farley and Ann Savage B2B. While they did play that Shhhhh we quite tune that I thought was ace, I didn't think much to there set. When they dropped a hard house rip off a Louie tune it was a post 97 DJ Vibes all over again. And with that we left.

All in all a top night and good points far out weighed the bad ones.

If you after a night out with that hardcore vibe and can handle music below 170 bpm then you cant go wrong with a Frantic event. To see what I mean check out the photos and movie clip in the gallery.

Shouts to Russ(its just what we do now),Becki-poo, Jonnie "Revolution Revolution " ,Pat, Diane and the rest of the Oz/Nz lot, Snow who I didn't speak to but I see having it on a massive video screen, Robyn and the rest of the Frantic cru for putting on such a great bash.
