United States of Hardcore
Travelled down with Friction and Andy Havoc who was playing there. Arrived at about 8:50pm (ten minutes before Andy was due on). My expectation's weren't that high of the night in all honesty, as it was a free party but when I got there, I was proved wrong and I was really impressed! The room itself held about 100-150 people (at a guess) and was down in like a basement. It was a nice place to hold an event, with a fully licensed bar, lots of chairs and tables for people to sit down and a great sound system! They had gone all out on the decor with white drapes from the ceiling and even visual's running from the TV's. The main rig which I beleive is owned by the promoter) was pretty impressive. The lighting was quality and suited the size of the room perfect. When we got there, DJ Cruze (nice to meet you mate ) was just playing his last two tunes. Next up was Andy who played really well, playing stuff such as "Get Fresh", "Ghetto Blaster", "Musica Maquina" to name a few, plus a load of gabber at the end - nice one rudeboy. Ya run tingz. After this things get a little bit blurry (hahaha). Next up on the decks was the DJ M-Dee who started off playing Old Skool which was quality, then gradually pitched up and progressed his set up to newer stuff. Playing tracks such as "4am", "People's Party (Remix)", "Bad Ass", "Hypnotising Terravising" and some other freeform tunage - selecta! Also, during DJ M-Dee's set, Scott Potential (MC Jammin) and Kambel made a surprise appearance! DJay-P was the DJ after this. I remember I was really impressed with him. His track selection was class and his mixing was as tight as a nun's crutch - fair played mate ! Set of the night. Some of the tunes weren't exactly my thing, but he went down really well with the up for it crowd as he played track after track of upfront Hardcore, before playing "Now Is The Time (original mix)" (which incidentally got a rewind!) and finishing with the new "Heart Of Gold". Last set was from Smartie, who played really fast and hard. Unfortunately, I didn't hear the whole of his set as we left about half way through, but from what I heard it was really good. Playing tunes off Blatant Beats and Next Gen and he played "Square Off" by Storm & Herman (tune!). Through out the night, MC's where Friction & Jammin (who imo did a great job hyping the crowd) and Cruze and Andy Havoc had a go too! Class! The crowd where great and I saw no trouble at all. A little bit shy at first, but as with any smaller events, as soon as they'd had a few beers, they all got up raving away! Overall, I had a great night. This just shows that you don't have to have a massive line up full of big names to have a good night out. It was nice to be at an event and not have to play, meaning I got really f**ked ! LOL. Must say a massive respect to the Nitebreed boys - wicked job. Next time - be there! Free party's such as last night's don't happen very often and if you live near Grantham and you missed it, then you missed out big style! Make the effort to get to the next one, these lot have got it sussed.
