Hard House Academy is run by London biggest Hard house promoter Frantic. Held at the legendary Brixton Academy. The same venue pop stars such as Madonna have used. Tonight Was Hardhouse Academy’s 2nd birthday bash. Set off from Milton Keynes and it was pissing down. After aquaplaning my way down the M1 we got to Brixton in not long over an hour to see loads of Cyber Kids, Raves and Clubbers all over the main high street. I knew I was heading the right way in London for once. At the venue we joined a tiny queue considering the event sold out weeks ago with 5000 people turning up tonight. 5 mines and we were in. Sanctuary Security should come down here for some training off these boys. There were 4 arenas here tonight. The Main Arena was co hosted by Nukleuz. 2nd Arena was hosted by 4Clubbers.net And the was 2 other rooms including a funky room and something else. To be Honest Brixton Academy is all about the Main room. The 2nd room is ok but has too many peps walking though it and other 2 are a waste of time imo. But the Main Room more then makes up for it. It is PHAT. Defiantly my one my top London venues. As you walk in there is a small slopeing floor then leads on to the main dance floor. You can dance on the slope, but it just feels weird dancing on an angle if you know what I mean. Then at the front off the arena is the main Stage with the DJ slap bang in the middle and not much else.A Few Stage Dancers wouldn’t have gone a miss at some point in the night. The Decor in Brixton academy is breathtaking. I can’t really explain what it looks like. And since I broke my camera the other week I can’t really show u either .But no other venue looks like it. The Standard Frantic massive spiky ball was there is full effect. The Sound system was good, Ace up front but a bit lacking near the back in spots. A Few more speaker stacks wouldn’t have gone a miss. The light show was good and the laser was spot on. I spent all of the night in the main room, dancing or chilling out on the massive Balcony looking down on everyone. The First DJ I caught was the Disco Brothers. Really Good set from the boys. They were playing all sorts form Trance to Hardhouse and even a bit of Techno. With Tunes such the Taub Remix and BK's Revolution. Great set from the boys and got me right into things early on. Next up was Steve Hill. One Word expanses his set. CHEESE! Its didn’t start off too bad but then moved on to tunes such as Set you free. And a trance remix of "Paul Elstacks Luv you more" And to top things off what MC comes out of nowhere? MC Majika! It was hardcore in 97 all over again all be it 30 bpm slower. To be fair Majika didn’t do a bad job. He kept his "Get ready for the G.O" to a minimal. Just sad the odd thing to hype the crowd up and intruded the all DJs (What made a nice change from second guessing who is on normally at hard house do’s). Tho if it was up to me I have booked MC Ribbz for the job in hand. As his style is perfectly suited for a Hard house night. Steve Hills set was good all be it a bit cheesy, Tho he did play a remix of BK' Revolution, nice one. Next up was Tom Harding, Not someone I had heard of before.Tho I found out he his massive in Europe, Even out doing the likes of Ferry Corston.Uplifting Trance was the order of the day. But he did slip in something a bit different every now and again with tunes like Marco'V's anthem "God". At this point the main arena just got too busy. I know how rubbish an event can be with no one there. But I was getting really pissed with peps bumping into me all over the shop. So I chilled out on the balcony up stairs for a few hours till thing calmed down a bit. Next up Phil Reynolds, Frantic Hard trance resident. He really rocked the crowed and you can see why he is London’s most booked Hard dance DJ. Now it was time for the "SPECIAL SURPRISE GUEST" my money was on Yoji Biomehanika as MC Maijka tends to follow him around. The lights went dark, Fireworks starting going off. MC Majika started hyping everyone up, then all lasers kicked in with the music. It was one of the best entrances I have ever seen at a event. Shame it was all wasted on the Tidy Boys. Sorry imp just not a fan of their style of Hard house. I sat down for most of there set and the only tune that they played that really did it for me was Lab 4's Requim. We left before the end of the set. Tho there was a few didn’t things wrong on the night (An event that size is never going to be perfect), it was a really good night. The atmosphere was second to none in the main arena. Was defiantly my best Hard house event since Mainframe at the Sanctuary. The next Hard House Academy is April 2003. See you there! Shouts to Russ, Jon, Becki, Doc-E and Robyn
