Antiworld - The Fridge, Brixton 8th-Feb-2003

Antiworld must be one of my favourite hard trance/techno/Nu-Nrg nights in London. I wasn't too sure what to expect from the night though, as all my previous Anti-world's had been at The Drome & Stratford Rex.

The Fridge is a lovely venue (I think it used to be an ABC cinema), there are 2 arenas now instead of the one (yes, they have turned the cafe into an arena! It has to be seen to be believed!) and one small chill out room, which is rather nice and properly air-conditioned!

One little gripe I do have about the venue (which is nothing to do with Anti-world), is that they left the heating on! I walked onto the balcony and could feel hot air being pumped into the arena!

As usual the sound was wicked! Loud and clear how it is supposed to be. Décor was good, lots of inflatables hanging from the ceiling, lots of u.v wall hangings & a big screen covering the stages which had trippy videos projected on to it. At the beginning of the P.A's there were indoor pyrotechnics that lighted up the whole arena (quite a shock when you weren’t expecting them!). The laser.. wow.. mmm.. it was lush!! Me and my girlfriend spent ages just watching, completely mesmerised.

The music was excellent. I really wish I could tell you who had played what set (its different when there are no MC's introducing the sets!) All of them got me dancing though! The live P.A by Y.O.M.C (Germany, Overdose Records) stuck in my mind though, hard to describe but it put a fat smile on my face and I danced like there was no tomorrow.

I didn't see too much of the second arena as it was a tad small and crowded (you'll know what I mean if you've been to the fridge). There were lots of stalls selling U.V jewellery, t-shirts, bags, sweeties.. everything!

There was also a temporary, spray-on tattoo stall. They had a whole range of designs in various neon colours (which looked rather nice under UV lighting) that last for up to 7 days if you looked after them.

Security were fine, sometimes you weren’t sure whether they were there or not, absolutely no trouble that I saw, toilets were really good (I actually spent 20 mins sitting on the toilet floor chatting to people.. that’s how nice everyone was! Cloakroom was quick with very little time spent queuing.

All I can say is that if you want a wicked night out, to dance until your feet drop off, with friendly, up-for-it people.. Antiworld is your night out!
