Hardcore Heaven - The Sanctuary 8th-Feb-2003

After working late night Saturday. We finally arrived at Milton Keynes at 9.30pm. The queue was not the biggest I have ever seen...but was big enough! Why, and this f**k`s me of, do you always get people trying to jump in. Anyway....got in, after no search at all, about 10:30. Andy Farley was on in main arena so went upstairs where Dice was playing some real music !! Never heard this guy b4 and it was a good set. The room was nice and hot and floor was jumping about. Havin' it, despite Smiley`s best efforts of sending it crashing down to earth! (bless him). We stayed upstairs for the rest of set, ever cautious as the threat of Mark E.G was a fast approaching.

11:00pm having avoided the threat....we were back in the main arena. It was at this point that I stopped to have a real look round. The venue was looking good. The sound was a good level, no distortion. In the midst of getting my bearings, Dougal had started. Accompanied by Marley and then later Whizzkid. I actually thought this was a very good set. The best I have heard from him for a while, IMO. An excellent way to start with some HARDCORE!

Next up was DJ Breeze with MC Storm. A good solid set. I’m becoming a bit of a fan of our Mr Breeze. After Breeze I had been expecting Promo. But it was Kevin Energy. Now, it was around this time that I lost the plot. I had been following it quite well up to a point, but you know what its like, take your eye of it for one minute. Once I had caught up with what was happening, I reckon I lost the `series` let alone the plot, I had missed Energy’s set completely and Styles was half way to completing his hour !!! The mind boggles as to what I was doing for that time. Will need therapy to suss that one out! Styles sounded good, the half I heard anyway!

3.00-4.00am had been expecting da big SY to step up. But it was Scotland’s number 1 Scott Brown. A very good set again by him. I’d not heard him for a while. He really is a class act. I lost count during the whole night how many of his tunes or remixes were played. A nice juicy tick in the excellent box there!

And so to Sy and Storm. A quality set AGAIN by him. Nice and bouncy. I do like the `Sweet harmony` remix he played. His scratching was top drawer as per. Storm hyped us all up as only he can. A friend from work (49 years old), who was at his first rave, had listened to me all week talking about these two and the way the compliment each other. They did not let us down. After these two showmen it was Demand. We reluctantly, had to leave at 0515. So missed his whole set. How bad is that??

My vote for set of night, well normally Sy is a dead cert for me. But Dougal, gets it with a photo finish. So as we left the Sanctuary to go to the car, (raining no surprise there then) we were left reflecting on the night. It was excellent. Top night. Well done boyz you did us proud. The return of the much missed HH more than stood up to its reputation. The Sanctuary was very busy as well, not heaving(like NYE) but full nonetheless.

A very good night. Cannot wait to do it all again. Just need to get a leash for that plot of mine !(and maybe all those 'queue jumpers' out there).
