United States of Hardcore

Miguels Gabber Kitchen - The Depot, Bristol 21st-Mar-2003

What a wicked night! It was our biggest and best party ever, After a year of making losses on our night and all sorts of teething problems it was nice to have a night with no problems. Our local music magazine (Venue) had done a nice write up in their features page so I was high on the fact we finally had some recognition and was very excitable all night: Hugging people and dancing on the speakers. I had a lot of queries about my Fancy Dress - I had intended to look like Piro The Clown but ended up like a extra for the Clockwork Orange - The Mystery of the flashing LED on my nose was simply a magnetic cufflink from christmas with the cheesy santa removed for that Techno Cyborg effect.

My night started at my house at about 5pm with Paul the Cripp and Total Output turning up at my house for a smoke. After a listen to Outputs new CD (very nice it was too) and some Skunk bongs we made our way down the Depot to set up. The Depot was already decorated due to the Trance Night last week - the guys from the trance night turned up about 7.30pm and wanted to take their decor down but we managed to persuade them to leave it up as there was no way we could decorate the whole club in 1 hour! We did ask them to stay on but I think the gabber we were testing the system with scared them off LOL!

Sketchy from Delerium started warming up the decks at 9pm with some New Style and Free-form - not really my kinda thing but it went down alright and Sketchy said he enjoyed playing a much harder set to his usual Hardcore stuff for a change. Next up was Paul the Cripp - Quality Hardcore set from him, didn't hear much of it due to other duties but he seemed to get people on the floor for Spliff Monk (Hammer Damage) - This was a big disapointment for me as I missed his whole bloody set and I really wanted to check it out - Never mind.

Next up was Mike The Teknoist who was looking rather fetching in his tie I thought - Quality set nice and hard and the MGK crowd seemed to enjoy his tunes. Enigma played a wicked set as usual, some quality tunes but it was Joe ET who I thought played the best set. Very experimental for Bristol lots of Breaks, Beats and Noize! We then had a go at drawing the raffle but people were just too messed up and wanting to dance so we left it. I played last had a little trouble with the computer only coming out of one channel but it was soon sorted and I managed to get in some of my trademark jumping about on the speakers! LOL.

Techno Room (room 2) was pretty packed all night with the Tikal Crew playing some quality Acid Techno, Foz and Blaze played some wicked HardStyle in there too.

All in all a top quality night - lots of new faces in the crowd as well as the usual MGK nutters and Free Party crew. First time I have ever made some money to pay some my DJ's and I want to thank everybody who played and turned up for making it such a success!

Shouts/Respect to: DJ Blaze (My partner in Crime), The Teknoist, Enigma, Joe ET, Sketchy John, Fugitive, Paul Cripp, Hammer Damage, DJ Rev, Total Output, Tikal Crew (especially Paul North), and anybody else who helped us on the night.

Next Party is 16th May come and check us out if you havent yet!
