Re-creation, South Parade Pier 19th-Apr-2003

What a night!! This new rave was hosting it’s first birthday party on the South Parade pier in Portsmouth. So far Re-creation have put on 4 events, with massive line-ups and this was my first. I found out about it through Jason the organiser and wasn’t expecting anything special as it finished at 2 and isn’t a massively talked about event. By the end of the night however, I could see why it is the best event on the south coast and certainly won’t be one to miss in the future!

We arrived at 9, just in time for Brisk’s set. He dropped some classic tunes such as unlock your brain as well as some ones I hadn’t heard before and really set the standard for the night. There was no MC, but people were pumping away on their horns and whistles to the hard dance beats! Next up was the set I had been waiting for: Sharkey. Marley was on the Mic and they got the crowd pumping. Sharkey dropped some new tunes as well as some typical freeform madness such as 50,000 watts and Mind Control. This DJ is rockin at the moment and together with energy have created a different style of hardcore than other major labels such as RBC and EP. It’s a shame he isn’t being booked for more events.

To continue the freeform was my fav DJ at the moment; Kevin Energy. He really got the crowds rockin! I had heard him the night before at Raindance and thought that was proper good but this was even better! He dropped the classic freeform tunes such as technorocker, crazy styles and wanna be a DJ. Sharkey took the Mic alongside MC Ethos and together these nutters got everyone pumping!

To finish the night from 1-2 was DJ Robbo who I hadn’t heard before but Jason had informed me he plays a wicked set. He dropped classic tunes such as You’re Shining, Elysium and Set you free. Gave the ravers some hardcore unity to end the night with! Marley was flexing the mic and together they ended an amazing night in style.

All in all it was a great night. Toilets were of a high standard. There were plenty of lights and lazers as well as a wicked Re-creation banner (nice one Kat!). There were no searches on the door and the security was firm and fair. Atmosphere was friendly and everyone was up for a wicked night! Also, how many ravers can say they’ve been to a rave on a pier?!

J informs me that the next Re-creation is set to be even bigger and better with probably Scott Brown and Energy doing a 2 ½ hour set each so WATCH THIS SPACE! I recommend it to anyone who’s really feeling the freeform at the moment or who is just up for a bangin’ night! Check www.recreationevents.co.uk for more info.

Shouts to Astraboy and Jenny who made it down, Hen (had a wicked night together!), Kat (nice banner and cheers for the afterparty) and most of all to Jason for putting so much time and energy into a wicked night!
