Jedi - Zanzibar, Newcastle Under Lyme 26th-Apr-2003

What a harsh weekend. Went to Cypher on Fri night with Wiggi, Gazy J and Solstice and had a good night up in Leeds. The 2 hour drive back with a fat hangover wasn't very nice at all but me and Wiggi kept chatting all the way back, only just stayed awake though. Got 4 hours sleep then trekked to Telford with Clipper for our show on DFM. That went well and we had a good laugh playin some bouncy techno and gabba (Tc mate you missed out, Clipper played Listen Carefully, Techno City by Diplomat and Alienz by Mastervibe haha!)

I thought I'd convinced Clipper to come to Jedi but I got a feeling the last herfner in the studio knocked him for 6 and in the end he didn't come. Gutted mate Jedi was a wicked night! He took me back to Stafford and I met up with the Lichfield reprobates (minus Gallagher unfortunately) and we had a swift pint in a pub then got the bus to Newcastle. The bus driver turned on the full force of the air conditioning to try and blow the smoke from the back of the bus, but he failed and we just froze on the bus, respect to you Mr Bus Driver.

Got to Newcastle and got straight into Jedi to find the place nicely filling up and Vinyltrixta on the decks boshin out some 95 hardcore...nice! Heard him play Piano Progression and a few more breakbeat tunes, then he dropped Passion by Triple J and a tune I aint heard for ages, the remix of Freedom to dance, booyah haha!

Up next was Sy and Storm who never fail to f**k up a dancefloor. Storm hyped up the ravers then Sy dropped his first tune, Hardcore Hustlers by Scott Brown. Never really listened to this tune properly but whoa, what a tune. I aint really one for vocal hardcore but the lyrics just made me smile, how nice is that tune haha! Sy's third tune was somethin I'd never heard before, apparently its Seduction's new tune, and rah what a tune it is! Everyone went off to this, and when I had a look round the room there were people dancin everwhere. Sy played a few more like Product of the devil and Crazy by Oli G and Smackdown, cue handshakes for Oli off us lot, it must be such a nice feelin to hear a big dj play your tune in a club, fair play Oli! Sy dropped a lot of tunes that I haven't heard before and the set really stood out as being really upfront and full of ideas.

After Sy was Benson, who i gotta say I didn't really listen to that much, so maybe someone else who heard him should comment. I heard him play 1066 by Dougal and Gamer and a few more nice bouncy tunes, but I wasnt really listening (soz Benson haha!)

Robbie Long stepped up on the decks for the next hour and started with Get Hard. He played a whole hour of breakbeat, including the wicked 99 remix of Musik by Demo. The crowd didn't really respond to the breakbeat stuff though, which was a shame but it didn't stop me dancin by the speakers, f**k it! Connie was on the mic doin some funny lyrics, he really should be booked more often cos he's a wicked mc. Also Man Parris did about 20 mins over Robbie Long, doin some weird and wonderful lyrics over the breakbeat, big up Man Parris original badboy!

Last set of the night fell to Scott Brown and as always he mashed it up. Played a fresh sounding set with wicked new remixes of Hardcore Hustlers and Definition of a badboy, and tunes like Neckbreaker, Na na na and a few more recent Evo tunes. Me and Hiney looked at the time and realised, that with 20 mins of the night left, it could only mean one thing. GABBA! Scott Brown dropped about 3 or 4 of the most savage new syle tunes towards the end, and everyone was goin f**kin crazy. People pushin others out the way, bouncin into each other, hittin each other and all that bizness. Mr Brown finished off the night with either Mind punks or Eyeopener remix, which blew everyones' heads off nicely for the journey home. Another thing about Scott Brown's set was Storm and Whizzkid goin b2b on the mic. Shit man I've heard em do it before but last night they were on fire, swappin the mic quick and keepin the lyrics comin. Whizzkid also had shitloads of new lyrics and looked like he was havin fun bustin em out to the Stoke ravers.

Got a kebab and chips (no drugs for me cos I had to have lunch with the family for my birthday today, bo), had a few spliffs down 18 Water Street with the crew, then set off home on a fat minibus. And for added bonus, the driver let us smoke all the way back to Lichfield. Dropped some gay guys off in Stafford and Rugeley and smoked til we couldn't see. Big up the bus driver on that one, we got your business card mate haha! Got back to Lichfield, had a spliff, watched some shite WWF, or is it WWE?, then f**kin fell asleep. What a beautiful weekend man.

Shouts to the Lichfield breadbins, Sawyer, Hiney, Chris, Leon, Dave, Oli G, Mozz, Wiggi, Overpike. Shouts to all the DFM family, Spangles, Fracus, Superman, Mini, Lych, Naylor, Deano, Bomb, Stevie D (I got a f**kin good memory I'm tellin ya!) and all the other Telford crew that made the mission. Shouts to Barney for another wicked night, shouts to Alex, Stace, Beaver, Kirk, Andy Techno who had a bit of trainspotter talk about bouncy techno with me, respect to all the bouncy techno soldiers out there!

Shout to Whizzkid the blazer, I'll get you back mate trust haha. Shouts to Sy who ripped it up and all the other djs/mcs who do it week in week out for our entertainment. Big up everyone else I saw in there, nuff faces and names that I can't put down here. Bring on the next one ya fukkerz
