Myself & my missus have just returned from Lloret de mar in Spain & I thought i'd try & give a brief outline on last saturday night. I went to a few record shops through the day & asked how to get to PONT AERI initially as that was the only makina event I had really heard of. A few of the shop owners & locals had said that 'XQUE' (pronounced 'parque' in the catalunyan dialect - a BIG makina event) was far better. And that skudero wasn't on form at the moment & XQUE's residents Pastis & Bueni were far better (Mr Brown, Robbie Long, Bass D etc have all played there). After a few enquiries on taxi & bus availability we decided that it wasnt possible to make the trip, buses had stopped running & the taxis were £45 each way (good lord almighty ). However, after a brief pub crawl (on mild spanish vitamins ) it suddenly came to me that life wasnt a rehearsal & we should find a taxi asap. By 1.35am we were in the queue after an hour taxi drive. It was enormous, & went on for ages (well over 300 still queing). This went down pretty fast & after a brisk search we were in,there was only one arena with i'd say about 30% outdoors with trees & such - very like Space in Ibiza. As we got there late on, the party was in full swing, from the posters around that said 'remember sessions' i'd figured it was an old skool classics night. In between mad spanish chants on the mic every now & again, I heard some edms inc plastic enemy - no house & 1st Strike from the allstars ep. This progressed to some bass & king matthew, hold me now & some inferno b-sides. I couldnt help noticing the large screens showing the djs hands throughout the night. They were scratching & playing accappellas & loops over almost every track - very impressive. Nearer the end I saw a few people stomping in a marching fashion & saluting in a mad fuhrer type way to the breaks which was a bit freaky. Still, I never saw an ounce of trouble & everyone I spoke to (with difficulty) seemed really pleasant - especially one of the promoters who took us to the next town after it finished at 6am to get a taxi. Well thats pretty much it,im not one for writing reviews as I find it impossible - but I did think that some of you would be interested to hear a bit about a makina event in Spain.
