United States of Hardcore
I arrived in Clacton at 6.00pm to be greeted by the freezing cold coast wind. I was playing first so I just managed to sink a few beers before going into Oscars. When I arrived at the front door I was searched by the security staff who were very polite and fair. I entered the hardcore arena to be greeted by Grant the promoter who informed me that the sound system had not arrived yet, this was due to the van breaking down in London. By this time there was a good few people queuing outside. The system finally turned up about 8.15pm and the sound system crew went straight to work. 9.00pm came and people started to enter the drum and bass arena but were prevented from entering the main hardcore arena. Finally, at 10.00pm the sound system was installed and working. The relief was clear on Grant's face. Big respect to DJ Jester who very kindly said that myself and Shades could play half an hour of his set, Respect mate. I started to play to an empty room, the doors were then opened to the hardcore arena and the next time I looked up the place was jumping. The night went very well, the system in the hardcore arena was excellent, lights smoke and production was wicked as well. At about 11.00pm I strolled into the drum and bass arena, which was jumping. Stayed there for a while before moving onto the techno arena where I bumped into a mate of mine going mad to a selection of old classic techno tunes. I then returned to the hardcore arena to watch Sy tear up the stomping crowd, followed by Unknown who continued the pace that Sy had set. Later Slam rinsed some old skool jungle classics, which went, down well. DJ Madcap turned up to play last set and roared one classic after another. To some the night up. All the DJ's that were booked turned up, the production was excellent apart from the system being late, it seemed to busier than the first event I attended so that is encouraging for the promoters and the ravers a like. Everyone had a great night and all the epidemik staff and security were very polite and fair. Maximum respect to Grant, Sean and Stuart who really worked very hard and everyone else who helped make the night a success. Shouts to Grant, Sean, Stuart, Sy, Unknown, Shades, Jester, E-Dup (hope my headphones worked ok hehe),Carl, Lee, Swain and everyone else who attended epidemik. The next epidemik is on April 17th 1999. Respect to everyone who works their knackers off helping keep our scene alive.
