United States of Hardcore
Yeah I thought it was an excellent night. Hardcore room was full all night, showed them how to party we did. hehe here's a little run down: Got in just before it opened (I was on first two hours). Had a quick look around the arenas to get a layout and they all looked pretty impressive. The hardcore room had been moved since last time and swapped places with the funky room which I though was an excellent idea. The deejay stand was perched a little higher. The lighting and production were excellent all around. There were a few technical probs with the right hand deck which caused me a little hassle and also caused a bit to Sy & Robbie Long. Nothing too major though and you just put up with it and move on. Right like I said all excellent and some of the other arenas didn't look as full this time around. However I think the main arena was pretty rammed all night and to be honest that's a big place so when that's full it can hold a few people. Here's a rundown of what I heard. Can't comment on myself really apart from with being on first I just tried to make it nice and bouncy, started off with a few breakbeat tracks and sorted out the levels etc.etc. with the system. Dropped a few older choons and really tried to avoid playing any big anthems any others might play as I was only the warm up. Pretty happy with the set, not perfect but not a nightmare so it's all good, got the room nice and bouncing and things started off well. Up next was Kev Energy and got to say I was impressed with the set, first time I have seen Kev for a while and I have to say technically he has improved amazingly, very very busy behind the decks and keep people bouncing. Aided by Odyssey on the mic who was there till half way through Sy's set. On next was Ham and again kept the bouncy feeling going, played a bit more happier than myself and Kevin and that's exactly what was needed. Excellent set indeed and got to say was very impressed with Ham (quality photo by the way, top drawer indeed heheh). He played a choon near the end with something saying 2004 was hardcore’s year, top choon. What was it mate ? (if you read this). Counted down the new year and the room went wild. Did all the happy new year malarky. Next was the one and only Sy. Bouncey as a space hopper on acid. What can you say about Sy that hasn't been said, he's one of the top boys for a reason and didn't disappoint. Like I said before a light technical problem half way through but that was rectified straight away. Odyssey had to leave half way through and no one took the mic which was a shame really. Could have done with somebody taking over until Wotsee turned up. Next on the roster was the one and only Brisk, who turned up looking like he had just completed a photo shoot for a catalogue :) You could tell he was really in the mood to party and his set reflected this. I didn't get chance to catch most of this as I went for a small wander around with the constantly grinning A.M.S who had travelled up with Robbie Long. hahah Never seen a man smile as much in all my life. Top man indeed. Hixxy was on next and again didn't catch most of this, perhaps someone could fill us in on both Brisk & Hixxy's sets ?????? After Hixxy was the one and only Devastate, start off with Heart Attack by Tha Outsidaz so you know how the rest went really. Nice banging and up for it party music which went down a storm, again at the exact perfect time after the happy side that had been played. The crowd were going mental as they had been most of the night and I personally think this was the set of the night. The reason for this was that the set was full of the new bouncy rave sound that people have been creating and the crowd lapped it up ........ Promoters take note this harder bouncy sound does work ............. Devastate should have been B2B with Robbie Long but due to another booking at Dizstruxshon they agreed to take an hour each. Next up after Devastate was Breeze who should have been on last but changed with Robbie. As you would from Breeze the trancier Raverbaby style got rinsed out. I needed some air after Devastate so went for a walk round and had a chat with a few people so didn't catch much of Breeze's set however I noticed they had started to operate a 1 in 1 out policy to get in the hardcore arena so it was the place to be. Robbie Long finished the night off however I couldn't take it anymore so it was time to leave. No doubt Robbie did what was needed and gave everybody a storming end. All in all a top night again at Magna and it was proof that you can still have a banging lineup with a bit of variety. The only downsides were maybe they could have had a couple more MC's just to rotate it a little and it was f**king freezing so walking around had to be kept to a minimum. Shouts to all the people that were there and all those who enjoyed it but in particular and in no order: - Martin Space, Lee UHT, Gaz James. Andy Freestyle and wifey, Alan A.M.S (had a good laugh matey), Robster Long, Devastation Dave and soon to be wife, Ham (top guy indeed), Kev Energy & Derek (nice to meet you finally), Wotsee, Whizzkid, Odyssey, Sy, Hixxy, Breezey, Paul O, Ian, Marcus and there other halfs. And a big big shout out to the number 1 catalogue model himself Brisk. haha top stuff fella. Sorry if there is anyone I forgot :)
