Slammin' Vinyl NYE - The Sanctuary 31st-Dec-2003

I've never been Raving for NYE before but it was class even though after waiting outside in the cold from 6pm until 8.30pm I couldn't feel my feet when I got in! After a cut short set by Mark EG, Breeze got things going with a selection of catchy tunes. He was followed by Brisk who was as consistent as ever to hand out a good set but then came the pinnacle of the night.

Hixxy’s set was phenomenal! He mixed in old and new tunes and got the crowd going better than anyone else ever could (With the exception maybe of DJ Force, Legend!). Scott Brown and then Dougal followed with mind blowing sets. I then missed the star of Kevin Energy's set because Force & Styles were supposed to be on in the old skool room, but whoever had been on before them had blown the sound system!

What I heard of Energy's set though was good, I'm not usually a big Kev fan but he impressed me this time, well done mate! Clacton Boy Darren Styles came on next obviously quite pi**ed off that he hadn't been able to play his old skool set and this showed, not the best outing by Styles but no doubt this was a one off. Up next were

Bristol's D-Ice and Reality, these two played a stonking set for their first time at Slammin Vinyl that even included a marriage proposal! Then came a set which to be honest I didn't understand why it went on, DJ Topgroove, never heard of him? Probably for the best! He played a trance set with very chilled out tracks, Why was he in the hardcore room with a set that included Robert Miles - Children???? And as the penultimate DJ was supposed to be a warm up for the legend that is DJ SY.

SY Came on and played a brilliant HARDCORE set. The only trouble was that we'd chilled out and come down off of the "natural" high that we'd been on for the majority of the night, well done SY I’m just disappointed I couldn't appreciate it properly as my legs weren't moving when I told them to!

All together a top night and probably the best NYE I've ever had. Well done Slammin for another top night but please don't let Topgroove play the Hardcore arena again!!!!

Hardcore is the Future!
