United States of Hardcore

Slammin' Vinyl - The Sanctuary 3rd-Apr-2004

Myself and my girlfriend set off from Farnborough about 8 for the drive up to Milton Keynes, got there just after 9 and was really suprised, no bloody queue. Fantastic but then I also though I hope it's not empty, after going to their firework spectacular and seeing the Sanctuary (drum and bass arena that should be the hardcore arena), half full I did honestly think this one would be the same. but I was wrong. It must be down to the probs they had on New Year, and if future evnts have quick moving queues , bring it on especially as it was cold and wet.

Anyway got into the fast track to see the end of Brisks set with MC Wotsee, blinding love it fast. After Brisk came the first half of Dougal and Gamma's set, Dougal up first and played a good happy trance set and after half an hour they introduced Gamma, who started with some happy trancey hardcore then on to some nu skool gabba, being an ex north regular, I do like the harder end of the hardcore spectrum. After Dougal and Gamma came northern nutter Mark EG, I dont meen to cause any offence but to listen to hard trance and hard style after some hardcore really slowed it down too much. I really think if they have to put hard dance in a hardcore arena they should put the DJ's on first like the valentines special when Mark EG played the first set of the evening.

So while Mark EG was on we went to check out the rest of the venue, not a massive fan of drum and bass, but had a look in the sanctuary, production in here was not as good as the fastrack, the tripping out drapes in the fastrack were back, as with their November event there was a massive inflatiable over the stage and stalagtights haging from the ceiling.

For some reason why do d&b ravers have to have attitude, felt really unsafe in this arena loads of people not looking happy, it's a rave for fucks sake, you're here to be happy.

We had a burger and then headed of back to the fasttrack, Mark EG was just finishing off, then one called Hixxy stepped up. It's so easy to see why he is a hardcore favorite, a true crowd pleaser in ever way.

My best highlights of the night were the Nu Energy P.A. ,absolutely fantastic, Sharkey on the mic telling people to get back over the barrier, Whizzkid telling some wanker to leave the ravers in the yellow jackets alone after some prick tryed to start a fight. and Scott Brown finishing off with a speedcore track. Unfortunatly it was cut short due to someone collapsing. A note to Slammin' put the laser further forward the lighing gantry cuts out some of the laser.

Once again a good night will be attending Hardcore Heaven - The Finale, and for definate will be attending the last Uproar at the Sanctuary. Hardcore Euphoria was my best event of a long time, all the DJ's played good sets , Darren Styles finishing off the night , good choice. Should have had brisk on instead of Mark EG and the other way round.

Shouts out to Sharkey and the Nu Energy boys, Whizzkid, Storm and all the performers especialy the bloke in the green dancing for Nu Energy.
