R House vs. Quake - Silhouette Club 12th-Nov-2004

First things first, R House is in Hull, Hull is in Yorkshire. Now we all know the score with Yorkshire MCs by now so no further comment on that, you like them or you don't. With girls in white mini skirts and high heels, and lads dancing in Berghouses, it could only be a Yorkshire rave!

This was the first event I attended in Hull so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, hearing that the club (Silhouette) was in a rough area came as no surprise as I've yet to goto a Hardcore rave in a decent area. From the outside Silhouette looks a decent venue and is very easy to find with the word 'Silhouette' in huge illuminated letters up the side of the building! As we arrived at about 10 there was no queue and we were straight in without a search.

As soon as we were inside we could hear the main arena sound system, loud and clear with the MCs just the right volume, although throughout the night the sound levels were up and down this didn't spoil the night much at all. Just to the left on entering the venue was the 2nd 'arena', the best case for not calling rooms 'arenas' I've ever seen. Not that it was too small but you could never call it an arena, more a chill out than anything, with the decks on a temporary table and about 2 speakers in the room. They were playing DnB in the 2nd room all night at a reasonable volume and as it was nicely cooler than the main room, was generally used as a chillout.

Moving from the 2nd room to the main arena was fairly confusing the first couple of times, you could go 2 ways neither very obvious to the newcomer! The main arena has a good sized multilevel dancefloor and plenty of room around the edges to chill out a bit. The DJ booth and the MC stage are both nicely seperated from the main dancefloor without being too distant.

The 2nd DJ (as it opened at 9, I missed the first one) played a decent Hard House/Trance into cheesy Hard Style including the tune which has the Eminem sample 'nobody listens to Techno' warming the night up nicely. At 11 the next DJ came on, speeding things up with a good Bouncy Techno/happy Hardcore set, caining a few anthems such as Love U More and Wonderful Days.

Next up, which came as a bit of a surprise to me was Scott Brown playing the midnight set, accompanied by MC Domer and his trademark 'f**k off' Lyric. Scott played a pretty upfront set with a few of his older tunes thrown in kicking off with Prince Of Darkness, moving onto Rock That Body (possibly a remix I'm not sure), before playing the first tune to really tear up the dancefloor, Lets All Get Down (probably not called that but thats the sample) getting a massive reaction. Keeping the energy high Scott dropped Fly With You, his Only Your Love remix and Commence then just passing the halfway point used Back and Forth as a bridge into Gabber, first playing the absolutely storming Art Of Fighters tune Earthquake and later Boomstick really raised the energy on the dancefloor once again.

And lo, at 1am the lord said 'make it more Trancy' and it was. The next set was a bit Trancy for me, kind of a let down after Scott Brown, the best track being the Scott Brown remix of Bring Me Round To Love. Ell on the mic.

The final and best set of the night was an amazing fast, bouncy set with mainly Quosh tunes with a few Evo thrown in for good measure. Rock Ya Hardcore, Ultimate High, Breeze and Styles remix, Sy and Unknown remix of Come On and Discoland and No Jokin were played to amazing reaction from the crowd before finishing off with the storming Scott Brown feat. Cat Knight, All About You.

After filling up nicely around midnight the dancefloor didn't thin out until the very end, great venue, good sound system despite the small problems, well run cloakroom, good 'invisible' security (the way they should be, if you notice security they're not doing a very good job!) and a great crowd all add up to a great rave. Looking forward to the next one!!!

Shouts to Steve, not a virgin raver anymore and managed to last the night out! Kayleigh, managed a whole half hour before getting bored and going home :op and Pinhead, hope to see you out again soon!
