Cybrationz - Club Destiny, Bournemouth
19th-Nov-2004
One in one out, one in one out – what’s that I hear you say? Well, that is the sound of success for Club Destiny. Friday 19th November was the first time they had a night reach capacity and have a hefty queue of people waiting to get in through the door. What could possibly do this to a small (yet perfectly formed) club in Bournemouth? The answer… Raverbaby! DJ’s Hixxy, Styles and UFO with MC Storm no less. With rumours flying around that owners Olly and Dylan are selling the club it seems only fair to set the record straight and let everyone know that the whispers are totally false and in Dylan’s own words ‘Why would I possibly want to sell this?’ I offered him a fiver but he stood firm!
From the word go the club was hyped, Andy T regular face in Bournemouth town got the crowd warmed up. Equilibrium was up next and I was a bit concerned he was going to go straight in for the kill and annihilate the crowd with a set of nu skool gabba but he dropped the best set I’ve ever seen him play. MC Casper was on the mic standing strong and lapping up the wicked vibe the crowd was oozing. His set had a much more Sharkeyesque, freeform sound and he played tracks ranging from ‘Wanna Be A DJ’ by Kevin Energy and Just Rich to ‘Alive’ by AMS to ‘Hitmen’ by Robbie Long and Stormtrooper. As Equilibrium reached the end of his set the RBC crew (minus Styles) shimmied through the crowd where Storm lapped up the attention from his eager fans. On entrance he sported a fetching white beanie hat and had a quick dance with the crowd before he got on mic duty.
By this point the long, thin main room was heaving and everyone was bouncing off the walls. When Hixxy stepped up to the decks and Storm got on the mic the atmosphere in the club was electric, the club was pumping, the crowd was jumping and there wasn’t a hint of attitude in the air. Hixxy kicked the set off as Styles had been held up and Storm switched hats, the source of his power and they both set about creating the best vibe Club Destiny had felt since it opened. In true RBC style the vocal classics were on full force with tunes like ‘24/7’ by Eclipse and ‘Turn Up The Music’ by Scott Brown. Storm was on absolutely top form, the lyrics were flowing and man can that guy go. At points I was slightly worried he was going to pass out from lack of air but respect where it is most definitely due as he got the crowd pumping beyond all belief. From vocal scratching to cheeky little sounds to the longest I’ve heard anyone go without breathing he certainly does have the gift of the gab when it comes to spitting those rhymes.
When Styles arrived they both continued the flow of wicked happy tunes, Styles threw on his own track ‘Getting Better’. Then for the piece-de-resistance, the track that took the roof off the club and kicked the ravers left, right and centre, ‘Extreme’ by Dougal and Gammer – Awesome what else can be said! More tunes kept flying out of both Hixxy and Styles bag with ‘Take My Hand’ the Dido Rip and ‘End Of Time’ that distinctly sounded like it had been reworked by Gammer. To finish the RBC round up UFO stepped up to the decks and played some older trancey, vocal based tracks. The crowd were lapping it up with tunes like ‘Connection’ by UFO and MC Marley, ‘New Years Day’ by UFO and ‘Breaker’ again by UFO, is there a theme emerging?
Last set of the night had to come and it spun round on a bouncy tip with DJ Real Play. He rocked it with tracks like the Stargazer’s remix of ‘John Peel Is Not Enough’ (which they played for me the other night on Radio One if you heard!) and ‘Keep The Crowd Jumping’ by Sy and Unknown. So in the firm knowledge that Destiny rocks and is not going to be put up for sale anytime soon I slept soundly after a fucking kick arse night!
Next hardcore frenzy to get yourself down to at Destiny is Oblivion on Friday 3rd December with Simon Apex b2b Robbie Long (after Mr. Apex’s last visit it is highly recommended), Unknown, Insane and residents Jedi and D-Lyte. And if it’s Cybrationz you desire the next one is a biggie, on Friday 17th December there is arguably the best line-up the club has seen since it opened – Scott Brown, Sy, Sharkey b2b Equilibrium, Koncept and Real Play. See you on the dance floor!
