United States of Hardcore
With all four corners of the hardcore scene covered it was going to be ‘a little bit of this and a little bit of that’ for the first event of the year on the Cybrationz calendar! Sharkey was representing the sounds of Nuenergy, Scott Brown in for Evolution, Darren Styles for Raverbaby and Dougal for Essential Platinum. This line-up was undoubtedly the biggest in Cybrationz history and if the last two events were anything to go by it was going to be rammed! First up was battle of the residents; Equilibrium and Realplay went back to back with their distinctly different styles. To be honest I wasn’t too sure what to expect but man this seems to be the winning combination for these guys! It was like a full on fight with quality technique and scratching pitted against wicked tunes. The residents were trying to top each other at every turn and with a whole host of wicked tracks pumping out it was the crowd that benefited from this two-hour tantaliser. Notoriously slower at the start of the night the dance floor was full really early on and who blames the Cybrationz massive with tracks like ‘Wicked MC’ by Sharkey vs. CLSM, ‘Terrabeat’ by Devastate & Sharkey, ‘3000 Cycles’ by Dougal & Gammer and ‘Soundslegit’ by Brisk & Ham pumping out. With Casper and Sharkey on the mic it was a very promising start to the night indeed! Next up Sharkey hung up the microphone and put on his mixing shoes! The set started on a slightly slower tip but there was one thing for shaw the only way was up. As the Nuenergy splendours flew out of his box my dancing shoes were burning up. He played wicked tracks like the new K Komplex remix of ‘Crescendo’s Of Ecstasy’, ‘London Helsinki Underground’ by Energy and Proteus and two Gammer ground shakers ‘Extreme’ (with the help of Dougal) and ‘Rippin’ Up’. He threw in ‘Adagio’ by K Komplex just so we had a few seconds to catch our breath and then rounded his set off with the soon to be record breaking ‘Pig Fucker’ by Ephexis. This track wipes the floor with Moby’s attempt at getting the fastest track ever written and it needs to be heard to be believed – feet on fire!!! Scott Brown was up next for his second appearance in two events. He mixed it up a good ‘en with tracks like ‘Neckbreaker’ by Plus System, ‘All About You’ by SB, the ‘Rock You Softly’ remix and ‘Back & Forth’ the legendary floor thrasher by Brisk and Brown. It’s no wonder Scott has come back two months in a row as he says he loves the club: “I love low ceilings and it has a wicked atmosphere.” Mr. Brown sounds like he approves! Darren Styles was next to grace the Club Destiny decks playing a bonus 20 minutes to fulfil the Raverbaby followers. He dropped some arse wiggling tracks including ‘Makin’ Me Wanna Dance’ by ASA & S1, ‘The Theme’ by Hixxy & Styles and ‘Know The Score’ by Dougal and Gammer. He also played a new tune from his studio ‘Slipping Away’ and also funky as fuck track ‘Cocaine’ by The Warp Brothers. As well as having the special treat of twenty minutes extra of Styles we were also spoilt with Jordi aka. Lost Soul on the mic, don’t give up your day job hun! Last set of the night came from Essential Platinum’s numero uno, Dougal. There was so much love in the air for Mr. Dougal. After being asked three times what time his set was, seeing the raver’s itching on the dance floor at 2.00 when the main man was meant to be on and fighting off the swarm of girls in front of the decks when he finally showed up - it was obvious that when it comes to hardcore the ravers still have a very special place in their heart when it comes to Dougal. After rushing through the crowd twenty minutes later than planned Dougal satisfied the needs of his followers. He played a whole host of vocal wonders like ‘Ordinary People’ and ‘All About You’ by Scott Brown feat. Cat Knight. He also played his brand spanking new track ‘Make Noise’ which is the latest tune to come out of the Dougal and Gammer production plant. Cybrationz is on the up. 2005 will see Cybrationz moving from one night a month to two and not only that, April will be a Cybrationz extravaganza with four, yes four events! If you haven’t been to Cybrationz yet you really need to pack up your dancing shoes and party pants and get yourself to Club Destiny. The next event is a freeform fantasy on Friday 11th February with THE best DJ’s including Kevin Energy b2b Sharkey, CLSM, AMS b2b K Komplex. See you at the front with bells on!
