United States of Hardcore
Well what can I say? Missed my planned train so I had to miss the first meet-up and eventually got in at 11.30ish. Straight to the bar in the old skool room for the trusty bottled water and then it hit me. It was very hot in there. Nicky Blackmarket was playing some old classics but was in need for something a bit faster. In the hardcore room Force and Styles were working up the crowd with some good mixing and, on the whole, a good set. Their set lasted a while longer than expected so I guess Vibes was a little late getting there but they kept the crowd in the same place mixing in some classics whilst not getting too cheesey. Vibes was up next and started on what was to be a typical Vibes set. Went to the 2nd meet-up but surprise there was no-one there. Then decided to venture into the Old Skool arena for a something a bit slower. I can't remember who was playing but a great selection of happy classics were thumping their way onto the dancefloor. Back to the happy hardcore room saw Vinylgroover step up to the wheels of steel. And he didn't dissapoint with some great mixing and tune selection. I just had to stay for the whole set. But wait! Did I hear somone say Rat Pack?? I wasn't wrong. They performed their usual fantastic set and really ripped it up for the crowded dancefloor. But the best was still to come. One hour left and who should be finishing off in the hardcore room but Sy and Unknown. What can I say?? Going from old to new with classics like "The Slammer", "Six Days", "Here I am" and into some of the latest. The mixing was great, the scratching majestic and the set was the best of the night. I left feeling that I did get value for money and will certainly go again if held at the same venue. On the down side it was far too hot and it only got cooler when they opened up the doors at 3.00ish to let some hot air out, but the atmosphere, music, DJ's and organisers certainly won the day. Cheers Happy Stag (Mark)
